Selena cried out, squeezing around his cock too tight. Kaede soon followed, moaning as he jerked faster beneath them, triggering Zirene’s release.
Arching his back, Zirene roared into the air as his release burned through him.
Chapter Forty-Two
Selena
Stretching, I opened my eyes as I realized the lack of bodies surrounding me.
Sunlight beamed through the waterfall window as the dome’s vidscreens displayed my cubs playing in the water from a multitude of angles. I smiled at them as they were enjoying themselves with other Aldawi cubs.
Sighing, I took in the content feeling, still satisfied from the night before.
I was pregnant, Kaede was the sire, and my mates knew how to work together to please me well. The only thing missing was my cubs, and I should be seeing them in a few days if all went to plan.
Checking Destima’s mental web, I surveyed its status. The golden threads felt strong, and the overall feeling from the citizens was contentment and pleasantness. In a way, the web felt like a moon-wide hug, always surrounding me and filling me with positive emotions.
I knew it wouldn’t always be this way. Sooner or later, I would make a mistake, and Destima’s citizens would become distraught, but it was nice knowing that I was doing something right, even though I’d done so little since I was kidnapped.
Tracing my clan threads, I found all but one were at my villa estate. The princes were content, entertaining the outsiders in our backyard. Xylo was hopeful as he worked around the infirmary, discovering his new limitations.
But Odelm was upset as he roamed his music room, wondering when he would be able to play most of his instruments.
Suddenly, someone placed my feet on their thigh and began rubbing them. I didn’t even need to glance over to see who. I could tell by the way they rolled their strong hands along with the pads of my feet… and by my newest mental thread.
“Why is everyone gone?” I asked as I continued to watch my cubs play on vidscreens.
“It’s midday,” Kaede chuckled. “Did you think everyone was going to remain here in your nestbed until you woke up?”
“No,” I drawled, rolling my eyes at my guard. “But that doesn’t mean you couldn’t wake me up when everyone else was.”
“Selena,” Kaede huffed, squeezing harder on my heel. “You are pregnant and still recovering. It would be wrong for anyone to wake you before your body is ready. It would be best to have as much sleep as you get, especially before Mwe arrives and we gather the cubs. Who knows when we will be able to sleep with them running about.”
“What you say is true; I just wish I didn’t need to sleep the day away.”
Closing my eyes, I focused on Kaede’s hands as they worked my feet, not caring what sounds escaped my mouth from his attention.
“There is still enough of the day for you to do things,” Kaede soothed. “You can go to bed if you want to.”
“I can sleep later tonight.” I traced my mental threads once again and found my nestmates were in the same status. “Do you think Zirene would ever want what I just gave you?”
He stilled, causing me to snap my head in his direction.
Dressed in only black pants, my lethal guard stared at me as if he were trying to calculate the best answer. His fangs stuck out of his pursed lips as his neon green eyes locked on to mine.
“I’m not foolish to believe that what you gave me wouldn’t be offered to another,” he replied, slow and calculated. “But I believe you should wait until we know more about your Nova-Shadow connection before you bind yourselves together in such a way.”
“Why?” I tilted my head, studying him as I tried to figure out what problems there would be—only to fail to come up with any. “Our lives are already connected. How would it be any different?”
“While this is true, little is known about your unique connection with Z. All we know is that the closer you two are, the more powerful you become. What if creating a mental thread to him causes either one of you to overpower the other? Or causes one of you to become insane from the imbalance?” He shook his head and looked down at his hands as he continued to massage my feet. “I wouldn’t be comfortable with the both of you forming such a connection when we are still trying to stabilize ourselves. There’s too much going on at the moment for you to add one more issue we may need to solve.”
“I understand,” I muttered. “I just wish I knew where Zirene is and what he’s doing as I do with the rest of the clan.”
“With time, I’m sure you will,” Kaede chuckled. “When do you ever listen to me?”
“I always do.”
“And Wudix swim.”
