“It's one thing to say you don't want kids, but after you spend time with one who is going to do everything in his tiny power to make you love him, it is another,” Helen said.“Oscar is going to be the ideal child, say all the right things, be Johnny Come Ready, all to make you love him and agree to be his father.When he asks this time after the weekend, are you prepared to tell him no?”
“And if I'm not, are you prepared to take on the role of Mom?”
“No, I am Aunt Helen,” she said.“I shall be his Aunt Helen and give him all the love and sporadic affection from the successful Aunt who left the small town and moved to the Big City.”
Mustang laughed.“So, no mothering in you?”
“It's in me, but if I have to take on a role, I will start as the aunt.He knows me as Aunt Helen.It's easier,” she said.
“Okay then, Aunt Helen,” he said, “what else is on your mind?”
