I’d expected to be teased more by him. “So what do you have a thing for?”
“Women who leave me hanging after the best kiss of my life.” He stood up and walked towards where I was sitting, his sweatpants and top far too tight to be legal.
My eyes took him in, unashamedly this time. He was cut, strong, lickable, and he knew it, but I didn’t think he cared. He owned his body as an athlete and a man and that was as magnetic as how he looked.
I was athletic; my body was my job and that was to be as fit as I could be. I did have half an idea of how to dress up for nights out, but I wasn’t confident in how I looked, I never had been because I’d always been the tomboy when my friends were developing curves and colouring their hair.
But Rowan wasn’t looking at me like I was anything less than beautiful, and judging by what his sweats couldn’t hide, he found me attractive.
I felt a pulse between my legs, the heat there rising. I glanced at the door, still closed, but not locked, and if someone walked in… well, I wasn’t sure I cared right now.
Rowan bent down over the table I was sitting at and put a finger under my chin, similar to last time, lifting my head before slowly moving in to kiss me.
There was no other contact between us, just our lips and his finger still under my chin, but my body didn’t get that message. The heat that had already started was now an inferno, between my legs felt wet already, and my nipples, covered by only a thin sports bra and a tight tank, had hardened.
His tongue slowly invaded my mouth, taking complete possession and I let him. Right now, even in this room where anyone could walk in, I’d let him take me however he wanted, and I’d analyse that later.
The kiss was one I got lost in, a maze of sensations that rendered any common sense of decency gone. It was tender, slow, and yet asked for more than any encounter I’d had with my ex, or the other couple of boyfriends I’d had before.
When he stopped the kiss, he left his finger stayed underneath my chin, keeping my head looking at him, stopping me from looking away. All breath had been taken from me.
“I want to take you out. Tell me when I can.” His words were low; he kept his tone quiet.
My head went to Toby. He’d been clingy, needing to know when I’d be picking him up, obviously fearful that I would leave him too, but not going anywhere without him wasn’t going to be healthy in the long run. “Let me see when Genny can babysit.”
Rowan nodded, his eyes still not leaving mine. “This week. We have a friendly on Sunday.”
Which meant Saturday night was out. The night before a game would be low key, there would be rituals if a player was superstitious, and a diet plan that would be followed. No player with half an ounce of common sense would be seen out the night before a match and face being crucified by the media and the supporters.
“I might take Toby to the game.”
His hand moved from my chin and he stood up, the bulge in his sweats still obvious, too obvious for me not to stare at it.
Laughter made me raise my gaze.
“Checking out the goods?”
I blushed and closed my eyes, wishing the ground would swallow me up. “Hard to miss.”
“Going to take that as a compliment from you, Sparkles. Will you text me when you can get a sitter?”
I nodded. “I will. I’ll go and see Genny now. I’ll ask her not to say anything though.”
“Why? Don’t you want anyone knowing you’re going on a date with me?” He folded his arms, and his eyes flashed dangerously.
I stood up, trying to match his height and, of course, failing. “Maybe we shouldn’t broadcast it.”
“Why not? Will I hurt your reputation?”
I shook my head. As soon as my teammates knew I was going on a date with Rowan Reeves, they’d, well, be pleased for me. Then the teasing would start. And the questions. “You don’t mind people knowing?”
“I don’t care if people know because it’s none of their business. Genny doesn’t gossip anyway.”
“Where do you want to go?”
“Text me what you like and what you don’t – I’m talking about food.” His eyes danced wickedly. “But you can text me what you like and don’t with other stuff too.”
The blush that hadn’t calmed down was now turned up to intense red, which made Rowan give me a chuckle that sounded downright dirty.
