“Shhhh.” I put my finger to his lips. “Someone’s on the landing.”
“Hello? Liam? Sophie?”
It was the agent. I looked to the ceiling and thanked fuck she hadn’t been a few minutes earlier.
“We’ll be with you in a moment.” I managed to sound not like someone who had just had two mind-blowing orgasms and had been fucked to within an inch of her life. “Just discussing the pros and cons.”
She knew damn well what we’d been doing. There was no way she’d missed my orgasm cry.
I looked at Liam as the footsteps trailed away. I saw the hint of a smile start to grow and by the time we couldn’t hear her anymore, we were trying to stifle laughter.
“I’m buying it,” he said. We’d managed to stop laughing before he dropped me. I found a tissue in my bag and cleaned myself up, pulling on underwear while all he had to do was his zipper and button. “I think that just sealed the deal.”
I didn’t expect what he did next. His arms came round me and he pulled me in close, wrapping me in a hug so tight my eyes watered. “We’ll share this bedroom?”
When I looked up at him I realised how utterly wrong Amber had been.
* * *
Liam made an offer before we left. I guessed when you had more money than you had to think about, you could blow a couple of million on a house like I would on a pair of Louboutin’s – and I considered myself lucky.
The agent was all smiles as we left, promising to get in touch as soon as she’d spoken to the owners.
“She totally knows what we were doing.” We paused next to Liam’s car as she walked to her vehicle. “I think we just gave her enough gossip for the next decade.”
Liam nodded. “She works for a high end estate agents though so she’ll know to keep her mouth shut. And her commission for this will probably pay off her mortgage.” He opened the passenger door for me, closing it carefully.
I waited until he’d gotten in the other side before taking a deep breath.
“I saw Amber today.”
He frowned. “Who?”
“Amber. Your friend, the journalist.”
“What did she want?” He turned on the ignition.
“She was waiting for me at work. She had some advice.”
Liam snorted, indicating before checking his mirrors, waiting for a cyclist to ride past.
“I’ve never known Amber to have any advice other than the best way to roll a note before doing a line.”
I raised a brow.
“You know I don’t do that shit any more. What pearls of wisdom did she attempt to throw?”
“That you were using me. I’d get hurt. That you had no idea how to have a relationship.” I shrugged. “I’m here so I’m not taking what she says over how you are.”
He didn’t look at me, mainly because he was concentrating on driving and driving in London could be unpredictable given tourists, cyclists and the idiocy of some people, but also because I knew this wasn’t an easy conversation, given the utterly stupid way I’d just phrased it.
“Not that we’re in a relationship. I know…”
“Idon’tknow, Sophie.” He slowed for a red light. “We’ve gone from seriously not liking each other to fucking in a house we’re looking to move into together. And I want to move into that house with you, which is wigging me the fuck out.”
“Do you need some space? You know, it’s all full on…”
“No, I don’t, because I want you around. I’ve never wanted anyone around before. But this isn’t just about me – do you need some space? Because you were never after a relationship either.”
