Ben’s desk is still there, untouched.

“What did you want me for?”

“Ben.”

It’s one word. One I’ve been avoiding with him.

“He was there. At the co-ordinates we found off the drive.”

“I know.” There’s a undercurrent to his words.

“He’s still there. I’m going to see him later.”

Micky gives a single nod. “She saw him in Edinburgh. It’s made her think she’s going mad. He needs to come back here, Isaac. We can sort this out but I can’t have her losing her mind with more grief.”

“You mean to hide him here?”

Micky nods. “I don’t for one half second think he had anything to do with Lennox’s death. I don’t think he’d ever do anything to purposely hurt Blair. If I did, I’d have never fucking employed him.”

“Why’ve you waited until now then? You knew he was alive. She was in Edinburgh five days ago. Why wait?” My voice is loud without me realising it; impatient and frustrated.

“She needed to get the funeral out of the way before we stopped her from castrating you at the very least.”

I have no response, because he’s right.

“Maybe we fucked up.” I shrug, look at him for what to do.

“Maybe you did. We have people under surveillance. Your father is one of them.”

It’s a sudden change of subject. “You think there are more attacks planned on Blair?” Because Micky doesn’t know what I told my father, the piece of news that could escalate events one way or another.

“I think you might know why that might be the case.”

Correction: Micky does know.

“The walls have ears.”

He nods. “Mechanical ones that are expensive and finicky to install.”

“You heard me speak to my father?”

“You were loud and clear.” He doesn’t say anything and there’s no judgement in his expression. “Top tip for the week: keep me in the fucking loop as I might be able to help. And tell Ben to get his arse back down here.”

“If he’s here and the leak is someone in the castle, won’t Ben being here…”

Micky laughs. “How can another turd add to this pile of fucked up shit that we’ve got going on already?” Then his eyes are serious. “Bring Ben back here. Weather Hurricane Blair. But at least we can keep her safe.”

I nod, but I’m not sure I’m agreeing.

I’m not sure I’m trusting Micky anymore.

He knows too much.

Chapter 17

Blair

There’s something in her eyes when she looks at me across the room. It isn’t a look that contains pity or sadness, but almost one of fear.
