“It’s always so good.”
He barely heard her words. Responding wasn’t something he was capable of. Speaking was beyond him, and not because the orgasm had just swept away his brain cells.
It was because he had no idea how to communicate what he felt to the woman who had stolen his heart.
The woman who had claimed him as a friend.
Chapter Sixteen
“What time’s your massage?”
Rayah heard the words but didn’t quite understand them. The heat and the fact that she didn’t have to move for some time had resulted in her brain officially seizing up.
“Ray? Are you still alive?”
There was a sharp kick to her ankle.
She managed to utter a noise that was meant to represent ‘fuck off Keren’ but it was more of an unintelligible moan instead.
“I’m sorry? Are we now on a planet where we no longer use words?”
Rayah lifted her head and half opened one eye. Keren was sat up in the sauna, back against the wood, her hands trying to shield the bump left behind from baby Eden. She was self-conscious about not having lost all of her baby weight and although Rayah thought that Keren looked amazing, given that Eden was only four months old, she didn’t want to negate Keren’s feelings.
“This is the first time this week I’ve managed to relax.” The words sounded slurred.
“You mean apart from when you’ve been being boned by Jonny?”
Rayah made another strange noise, not having any energy to argue, debate or explain.
“Because when I knocked on your door on Wednesday night, there was no answer. Same on Thursday. And weirdly enough, you weren’t there last night either.”
Rayah wasn’t getting out of this conversation, even if she feigned death and a funeral. But the sauna was just the perfect temperature and she didn’t want to have to focus on avoiding Keren’s questions.
“Maybe I was just asleep.”
“You forget I’ve known you since we were in infant school. You don’t go to bed that early unless you’re burying your nose in a book or a cock in your fanny. I’m thinking this was the latter.”
Opening both eyes was almost painful. Rayah blinked furiously, trying to encourage her brain cells to start working. Keren knew she’d be vulnerable right now; sleepy, warm and relaxed Rayah told secrets, it was like her mouth wasn’t being controlled by her brain.
“You can’t say anything.”
“I never do.”
This was true. Keren only gossiped with Rayah and sometimes Sorrell.
“I’ve been at Jonny’s.”
“You want to tell me something that I don’t know?”
Rayah managed to sit up. “He’s been on earlies. It’s easier if I sort the kids out in the mornings and then they come to school with me.”
“So you’ve become their nanny, only he’s paying you with the use of his cock?”
Rayah rolled her eyes even though Keren wouldn’t be able to see given the dim light in the sauna. “I’m helping out a friend.”
“Ray, get your head out of your arse. You’re head over heels for the man and you have been for years.”
“I don’t need the lecture about how I’m going to get hurt.”
