He shrugged, opening the door. “Then that’s their problem. But this is only our first date. Come watch tomorrow.”

I looked at him before entering his home: square jaw, dark stubble, swarthy skin and eyes that mesmerised me. For a second my heart seemed to pause and then my eyes met his and I realised he knew exactly how he affected me.

“I don’t think we’re ready for me to carry you over the threshold, so do you want to come in and I can shut the door?”

I did. He closed the door.

I woke to find myself covered by a sheet and Eli, my back against his chest, one of his arms and a leg flung over me, his head pressed into the crook of my neck and morning wood pushed against my ass. Clearly my body had woken before my mind as I could feel heat and need pooling between my legs which surprised me given that Eli had given me a thorough demonstration of just how excellent his stamina was last night.

The clock on the wall was blurry for a second until I blinked a few times. “Shit,” I said, moving from his hold. “Elijah, it’s just past ten.”

He rolled onto his back and moaned. “That clock’s not right,” he murmured and pulled me back into him. “It stopped.”

“What time is it then?”

“Don’t know. I set an alarm for half eight.”

I reached over to the bedside table and fumbled for my phone, Eli’s arms keeping my ass pulled into where his cock was swollen and hard. “Your alarm’s not worked,” I said. “But it’s only quarter to nine.”

One of his hands crept to my waist and slid round to between my legs. I heard a soft chuckle as fingers discovered the effect he’d had on me.

“Time for a warm up then.”

His eyes were sleepy and his hair was mussed when I turned my head to look at him. The sheet stopped at his waist, exposing his chest with smooth tanned skin and taut hard muscle. I had no idea why his ex-girlfriend hadn’t moved back to London, but I knew she was a fool.

The sex was lazy and slow; Eli’s touches were tender and soft as he mapped my body with his fingers. He seemed to know where I liked to be touched and how, eliciting soft moans and whimpers. I felt his soft laughter, rather than heard it, as it vibrated through his chest, into my back and I wondered how I’d relinquished power to him, as he had it all right now. I was at his mercy, a pliable, responsive woman, high off how he was making me feel.

Afterwards, I half lay on him, my head on his chest, listening to the rhythm of his heart as he settled and relaxed. “I hope that won’t throw you off your game later. I don’t want to be responsible for a Callaghan Green loss.”

His hand played with strands of my hair, the quietness of the room shutting out the rest of the world. “I’ll play fine,” he said. “Callum and Seph will be worse for wear from last night and I don’t think Killian will have had a lot of sleep because of the baby, so any loss won’t be on me. Besides, we’ll win today.”

“You’re awfully sure of yourself.”

The hand that wasn’t playing with my hair dropped to my hip. “Nothing wrong with a bit of confidence. Where shall we go for our next date?”

I laughed. “Confidence or arrogance?”

“Let me rephrase then: can I take you out again?”

“It’s nice to be asked,” I said, ignoring the explosion of unicorns running around in my torso. “But yes, you can. As long as it’s as good as last night. The bar is set.”

“You’re easy for me to be around, Ava. We don’t run out of things to say to each other.”

“And you already get my crazy family. We should be careful or we’ll end up in a relationship.”

“Which terrifies you.”

“Kind of.”

“Why?”

“The time. The commitment – not that I’m a cheater. Having to consider someone else. Is that what you want?”

“I want another date with you. Maybe a few more. Perhaps a weekend away if those dates go well and we have a good time. I don’t know if that’s a relationship in your book.”

“You just want to enjoy yourself.”

“Pretty much.”
