He did make me a cup of a tea. And he made me another in the morning, and several the evening after.
And the morning after that.
Nicky Pryce-Jones may have been the absolute dream of a man, but he was also the devil in that disguise, because I knew he had the power to do what no man had, and steal away my heart.
Epilogue
NICKY
The season had started.
Training was in full force and the wannabe WAG army had a band of new recruits for the new season. I’d rarely paid them any attention anyway, but now I had no time at all for them. My degree, training and Kitty, along with my big brother duties and son duties were filling my time. Especially Kitty. I helped her out in the café if she was short for waiting on staff, which did mean even more wannabe WAGs turned up, but that only added to profit for her.
They soon figured out that I wasn’t interested in them anyway.
I couldn’t keep my hands off her.
I didn’t know who was more shocked by that; her or me. I’d suddenly gone from Mr Celibate to Mr Frequent Displays of Public Affection, which blew a few of my teammate’s minds.
Jesse was sitting down at a table in Kitty’s Café, working through a breakfast that ticked all the boxes, including Neva’s in terms of macros and calories.
“That friends-with-benefits things worked out then?” He looked from me to Kitty, who I’d just greeted by dipping her and giving her a Hollywood level kiss.
I nodded. “It has done.”
“You two serious then?”
I looked over at her, taking orders from a table of boyband lookalikes. They were flirting with her, having clearly come in after my kiss.
“We haven’t really said.” Although I’d spent every night bar when I’d been at training camp with her, either in her flat, or she’d started to come to mine.
Come in mine.
There had been a lot of that.
There had also been a lot of dates. Going out for food, walks in the countryside around Manchester, going to the cinema and the theatre. We’d managed a day at the beach in Anglesey too, so not all of our time had been spent naked.
For the last three years she’d been making me smile and think and laugh. That hadn’t stopped, it was just we had something else now.
“That’s played with your head, hasn’t it?” Jesse looked amused. “Maybe you need to make sure she knows this isn’t friends-with-benefits.”
I flipped him the finger, even though I knew he was right. “How’s the girl you can’t have?”
He glared at me. “Say nothing to anyone about that.”
I shrugged. “I don’t even know who she is, Jesse. But Rowan was going on about how you weren’t hooking up with your women on call anymore. Not sure how he knows.”
“Because he’s a gossip. In fact, his agent should get him a sponsorship with a gossip column.”
Jesse really was in a fucking grumpy mood.
“You need to get laid.”
He eyeballed me. “Yeah. You’re probably right. It’s done you the world of good.”
I could only agree with that. “So why don’t you?”
“Because the only woman my dick is interested in, isn’t available.”
