Every time we come across a guard, Fabian is there, and he gets them to drop almost immediately before they’ve had a chance to engage their shock sticks.
Thankfully, not a euphemism for their dicks.
It’s kind of messy. Every time a guard drops, someone notices and the escapees swarm toward them, kicking the shit out of their unconscious forms. I would feel bad, but then I remember that they locked Silver up here. That they locked a damnkidup here and they were going to execute her without a trial.
Then my tears dry right up.
We move through the building. There’s more mess, blood spattering the walls.
Onwards and upwards, until I hear the magic words.
“She’s close,” Dante says. “Somewhere on this floor.”
By this point, we’re more than halfway through emptying the building of its inhabitants. A surge of energy goes through me and Dante moves faster than I’ve ever seen before, darting through the fray with single-minded focus.
One more ward to smash. Another door to open.
“Breaking you out, breaking you out,” I sing as I yank the bolt and fling open the door.
And there she is. The center of my universe.
Dante steps into the shitty cell and Silver lets out a surprised cry as she flings herself at him. I wrap my arms around her too, for good measure. She hugs Dante close and then turns in his arms so she can wrap her arms around me.
The chaos inside me stills, just for a moment and I let out a relieved breath.
“You came for me,” she murmurs into my chest.
“Always.”
When I get control of my limbs again, I pull back and turn to the open door. Fabian’s waiting there, holding back.
Silver steps close to him until their chests are touching and he cups her cheek, staring down at her with fierce intensity, like he’s trying to communicate everything he’s feeling with just his eyes.
Relief. Happiness. Anger at the vamps and the judiciary. Love.
He rests his forehead against hers before pressing a gentle kiss to her lips.
“Ready to get out of here?”

As soon as Silver steps out of the judiciary building, I drag her into my arms and hold her tight against my chest. I don’t know exactly how much time passed between Ro and the others heading inside the building, and Silver appearing on the street outside, but it felt like days not minutes.
