I sit on the edge of my desk and shove my hands in my pockets. “What are you doing here, Ruby?”
“I don’t follow.”
“Don’t play stupid. What is that you want?”
“I’m not going to tell anyone.”
“Tell anyone what?”
“Do you want me to say it? You’re the one who showed up at my work and followed me afterwards.”
“And now you’re here in a club I own after I saw you meeting with a cop. Not once but twice, and I find out he’s your boyfriend.”
“Ex,” she reminds me.
“What do you want?”
“I came here with my supposed best friend for some drinks because I’ve had a hell of past twenty-four hours and then I find out not only did she invite this cunt I can’t stand but she knows Kelsey fucked Alex when we were together and didn’t think that was important information to share.”
“You should get better friends. A better man.”
She laughs. “Ha. Because there are so many of them.” She waves a hand in my direction, then folds her arms across her chest.
“Which one was it?”
I walk over to the tinted window that overlooks the club. “Point her out.”
She steps up next to me. “Why?”
“I don’t like cunts in my club.”
Her pocket hums with the vibration of her cell phone. “My friends are looking for me.”
“Like I said, you should get new friends.”
She rolls her eyes. “What do you want from me?”
“I asked you first. What is that you want?”
“In exchange for…” press my finger to her lips.
“Are you wearing a wire?”
“Little late to be asking me that, don’t you think?”
I shrug. “Lift up your shirt.”
“What?”
“You heard me. If you’re telling the truth, lift up your shirt and unbutton your pants.”
“I’m not having sex with you.”
“I don’t have to bargain for pussy, sweetheart. If I want to fuck someone, all I have to do is make a call.”
She snaps her fingers. “Just like that.”
I lick my bottom lip.
