“Anything,” Bel replied.
“Did you offer me the position as your assistant because we’re mates?”
“I did,” Bel answered. “It was the only way I could think of keeping you close until you were more comfortable with me.”
“Smart,” Atlas praised.
“You’re not mad about that?”
“No,” Atlas told him. “I’m not mad about that.” He wasn’t mad at all.
“I hated the thought of your returning to your realm without me,” Bel confessed.
Atlas felt the same way. “While we have breakfast, why don’t you tell me about your friends,” he requested. “I take it the little demon is Asmos?”
Bel waved his hand over the top of the desk. A full breakfast setup materialized, with a tablecloth, plates, glasses, and silverware. “Yes. I should tell you about them. Asmos is going to insist on accompanying us to see Seb and Ari. He likes watching the warriors train.”
“Warriors train?” Atlas repeated. “Tell me more. I feel like I should have some dirt on Asmos to keep him in line.”
“You are a very smart human,” Bel praised.
“Quarter demon,” Atlas corrected with a wink.
Bel’s laugh was rich and full. “One thing. And this is very important.”
Atlas paused, reaching for the silver dome cover above his plate.
“No matter how it is presented or what Adam offers, you are not to become one of his minions,” Bel ordered sternly.
“Cary told me all about Adam’s obsession with his minion demons,” Atlas admitted. “It sounds kind of fun.”
“No!” Bel pointed his finger straight at Atlas. “We have enough chaos around here with Asmos. We are not adding Adam’s…havoc that comes with him.”
Atlas pressed his lips together. He was making no promises. That sounded like a good time to him.
Chapter Seven
Atlas
This was amazing!
Watching a group of about twenty or so demons working on hand-to-hand combat was not something that Atlas had ever imagined would even be possible.
Asmos handed him a glass of iced lemonade although his gaze was still locked on the show in front of them.
“We really should be inside working,” Ari said while straightening his little bow tie and blushing. His mate had just picked up a seven-foot demon and slammed him into the ground, making it shake under them. Impressive.
“You just want your mate to take you into the back of the archives and show you how—”
Ari slammed his palm over Adam’s mouth before Adam could finish his sentence. “Shh! They’ll hear us!”
Atlas, Asmos, and Seb all snickered.
In Atlas’s opinion, Ari had to be the cutest demon that he’d ever seen. With a monster of a mate. Not that Atlas was thinking of monsters the same way as he’d done a few days ago. The word had a whole new meaning to him now. These warriors could be considered monsters but they were training to protect mates like him, Adam, Seb, and others.
They weren’t the only ones sitting on a large blanket under a tree admiring the training session. Demons and other paranormal creatures were scattered around the yard as well.
And shocking Atlas most of all, above his new friends, the demon warrior, was the hellhound that was lying against Atlas’s legs.
