She tilted her head, eyes narrowing. “Or charged you.”

His heart stuttered. “Yeah.” He searched her eyes for an answer to a question unasked. “Like that.”

Their eyes locked. The air between them buzzed again, a low undercurrent beneath the room’s hum—alive, alert, waiting for something.

Lena’s voice dropped. “Maybe we’re better together than we realized.”

He breathed out sharply, and it wasn’t a laugh—it was gratitude softened by disbelief. Because she didn’t look away. She didn’t flinch from what they both felt.

He gave her a crooked smile, part exhilaration, part surrender. “Or more dangerous.”

Her grin in return was slow and wicked, but her eyes held something softer. “Let’s find out.”

David’s heart raced as Lena leaned closer to him, her eyes locked onto his with a fiery intensity that sent shivers down his spine. He realized what was coming, and he welcomed the twin thrills of anticipation and anxiety.

Would she regret it? Would she pull back, leaving him exposed and vulnerable? Or would this be the moment that sealed their connection, solidifying it into something deeper and more profound than he had ever experienced before?

As their lips met, David held still, letting Lena take the lead. Her kiss was light at first, a soft caress that sparked electricity in his veins. Then, her lips pressed harder against his, and her tongue slid across his lips, asking for entry. His heart pounded as he surrendered to the sensation, allowing her to take control.

It was like a wave crashing over him, overwhelming his senses and stealing his breath. Lena’s kiss was electric, sparking bolts of pleasure that both exhilarated and scared him witless.

This was more than a simple act of passion—it was a deep, emotional connection that seemed to transcend the boundaries of their physical bodies.

As their kiss deepened, David found himself lost in a whirlwind of sensation. He wrapped his arms around Lena, pulling her onto his lap, trembling from the intensity of the experience. It was like nothing he had ever felt before—a fusion of love, desire, and raw emotion that left him both intoxicated and vulnerable.

When they finally broke the kiss, lungs desperate for air, David searched Lena’s eyes for any signs of regret or hesitation. But all he saw was fierce determination and a burning passion that matched his own.

“Wow,” he whispered, his voice husky with desire. “That… that was incredible.”

Lena grinned, her eyes sparkling in the dim light. “I’m glad you thought so,” she said, her own voice soft and sultry. “I fully intend to do it again.”

As they sat there, their bodies pressed against each other, David knew one thing for certain—he was in love with Lena, and he would do anything to keep her by his side. Now he had hope that Lena might be open to the idea of a relationship with him.

Regretfully, he stood and pulled Lena up beside him, their breathing still heavy. David’s heart melted at the sight of her rumpled clothing and flushed face. She was beautiful beyond words, and he couldn’t help but feel grateful for the chance encounter that had brought them together.

“Thank you,” he whispered, his voice filled with emotion. “Thank you for letting me in, for showing me this side of you.”

Lena smiled, her eyes crinkling at the corners. “I’m the one who should be thanking you. You’ve shown me parts of myself I didn’t know were there.” She swallowed. “I feel more alive with you than I ever have.”

David grinned, his heart swelling with happiness. “We’re in this together, Spark. We'll face whatever comes our way together.”

She tilted her head. “That’s new.”

“Promotion,” he replied.

Her smile softened. “From Firecracker?”

“Yeah. Less chaos. More power.”

Chapter 36

Tempest Tantrum

The low humof the equipment was the only sound in the server room—until David’s fingers tapped a quick sequence into his tablet. He stared at the screen, brow furrowed, glasses slipping down his nose. “Someone tried to breach the maintenance network again,” he muttered without looking up.

Lena stood behind him, arms crossed, the overzealous air conditioning raising goosebumps along her bare arms. The contrast between this refrigerated closet and the sweltering Florida heat outside always made her skin prickle. But after yesterday, she had no intention of letting him step into this room alone.

The man could not be trusted to take care of himself.
