Well, then let me help. Why don’t we watch a movie together later?

Eva frowned at her screen. How would that work, when they’d agreed not to meet up? She asked, curious what Molly was thinking.

You have Netflix, right? We can choose something on there. Both press play at the same time. Text our opinions to one another.

Not something Eva ever would have thought of doing. It was rare for her to sit down and watch a movie. She only did it with her mother because she knew it made her happy, and because it was nice for them to spend time together.

All right,Eva wrote, because it wasn’t like she had anything else planned for the day.But we’re not watching Star Wars.

I still can’t believe you didn’t like it.

It’s not my kind of movie.

Because things actually happen?

Eva replied with a middle finger.

I’ll pick something I think you’ll like.

Why can’t I pick? From what Eva knew of her and Molly, their tastes couldn’t be more different.

Because it was my idea. You can pick next time.

Eva liked the thought of their being a next time.I’ll be free in half an hour,Eva replied, after checking the timer on her phone.Let me know when you want to start.

Two hours later, Eva was doing something unheard of—sliding into her bed in the middle of the afternoon with her laptop balanced on her knees, not wanting to disturb her mother’s marathon on the TV downstairs.

Are you in position?

Eva opened Netflix and tapped on the search button.Yes. What am I putting on?

The Devil Wears Prada.

Eva was intrigued. What makes you think I’ll like it?

I think Miranda Priestly will remind you of someone. It would have also been an apt username for you.

We’ll see about that.

Though Meryl Streep’s Miranda had barely been on the screen for ten seconds and Eva could see why Molly had said it. People scrambled to tidy the office before she arrived, and scattered around her in the lobby, and Eva smiled—the kids did the same whenever she walked down the hall.

There was a woman she could admire.

Okay,Eva typed.You may have a point.

I knew it. I can’t believe you’ve never seen this before.

Eva couldn’t either, and she snorted when Emily Blunt’s character made a despairing comment about Anne Hathaway’s fashion sense. She had to agree—the skirt did belong in a convention.

Are you into fashion?Molly asked.

I’m not particularly into designer clothing, but I’ll pay a lot for a brand I know will last a long time. Are you?

Not at all.

Somehow, Eva wasn’t at all surprised. You’re an Andy, aren’t you?

Absolutely.
