“Humph!” He snorts. “Fine. But I’ll be checking up on you.”
“Good to know. Now…perhaps you’d like to fill me in on your problem.”
He growls and waves me to a seat that barely clears the doorway.
Sitting down, I pull out my notebook and eye him wryly. “Continue.”
This guy might be sexy as hell but he’s the biggest neanderthal I’ve met in a long time.
CHAPTER 3
Reed
There’s no way this woman can stay in my town. No way in hell.
My dick surges in my work pants and I groan, shifting in my desk chair.
“What do you want to know?”
“Well, for starters…how many fires are we talking about here?” She’s sitting there in that chair looking like butter wouldn’t melt in her pretty little mouth, her bright blue eyes glowing with intelligence.
That right there might be my downfall. I love a woman who can talk to me beyond the latest games on tv and the gossip in town.
“There have been three so far. All of them abandoned warehouses.”
Her head cocks and the chestnut curls that barely brush her delicate ears slip in front of her cheekbones as she looks down to write. Her pale, slim fingers race across the paper and I smirk.
“You got a problem with using your phone for notes?”
She barely glances up, grunting, “I like old school. Sue me.”
Never in a million years. My whole body tenses when her indigo eyes come back up and settle on me. “So nobody’s been hurt.”
“Not so far.”
She nods and makes another note, then settles back in her seat. “You’re worried though?”
“Yeah. I don’t want one of my friends or family or neighbors being in a building and then it goes up. Also, we’re going to be coming up on fire season. The last thing I need is this dumbass starting a wildfire.”
“I get it.”
“It’s always the same. Out of the way location…”
“Why are there so many warehouses around here?”
I sink back in my chair and smirk. “Well, that’s mighty interesting actually. This place used to have a bunch of motorcycle enthusiasts running around and they kinda took over the town.”
Her brow lifts and she huffs. “MC club? Legit or not?”
“Some were but there turned out to be a faction involved that didn’t care who they hurt or how they did it, they just wanted to make money. About ten years ago that disagreement turned into all-out war. Almost destroyed this place.”
“Who won?”
“Nobody wins. But the whole club was disbanded. They had multiple buildings that housed their legit and not-so-legit hobbies. There have also been other businesses that left the area and their buildings have been empty since then.”
“So plenty of places for this guy to torch with no witnesses.”
“Yeah. We’ve still got quite a few but I’d like to find this guy and get him locked up before something really bad beyond the obvious property damage.’
