The words “she’s pregnant” are on the tip of my tongue, but I can’t spit them out. Fina doesn’t want anyone to know yet. So I nod and shuffle back across the kitchen to where Luka sits with a faint smirk on his face.

I intended to sit next to him, but he snags an arm around my waist and pulls me onto his lap.

“Did you have a fun night, peaches?” he whispers in my ear. We both know he’s not referring to the dinner party at his father’s house.

My cheeks redden even more when Kane glances over and grins. He’s guessed what we’re talking about.

I have no clue why I’m acting all embarrassed. It’s not like me.

“I slept well, thanks for asking,” I say primly, channeling my inner lady. Luka snorts.

“I bet you did. Unlike me, who got stuck with a snoring dog.”

“My fur baby doesn’t snore!”

Coco sits at my feet, waiting for snacks. She’s grown very fond of crispy bacon, mostly because Luka insists on feeding her from his plate.

“Yeah, she does. Like her mommy.”

I huff in annoyance.I do not snore!

“I got something,” Kane says. We all look up. He doesn’t sound happy.

“I can’t believe my father tried to hurt you,” Luka mutters as Angelo peers over Kane’s shoulder. The two of them must have filled him in while I showered.

“I offered to poison him.” Luka’s eyebrows shoot up.

“With what?!”

“Viagra.” He snorts. “Crush a load of pills into his favorite liquor and boom, he’s dead from a heart attack.”

“Wow, I better not piss you off, cupcake. I might suffer a fatal accident.”

Angelo swears loudly as Kane slams his laptop shut.

“Get a team together. We’ll leave in five minutes.” Kane strides out of the kitchen.

“What’s going on?” Nothing good from the sounds of it.

“Fina and Matteo checked in last night, but the cameras picked up two men entering the suite just after one a.m. Someone disabled the security alarm, but they weren’t aware of the separate camera feed Kane had installed last year, which isn’t connected to the main system.” He grinds his teeth. “Thank fuck he did, or we’d have no clue what happened.”

My heart leaps into my throat as I stare at both of them. “Are Fina and Matteo safe?”

“We don’t know, which is why we’re heading over now. I’ve asked the hotel manager to check the suite.” Angelo looks at his phone and swipes to accept a call.

Luka and I don’t say a word as Angelo listens, his face tense.

“I’ll be there ASAP.” He ends the call and pockets his phone.

“Matteo’s been shot and is being taken to Mercy Memorial now. He might not survive.” I bite back a sob at the thought of Fina losing the man she loves. Luka’s arm tightens around my waist as we both imagine the pain she must be feeling right now.

I couldn’t bear it if I lost him or Kane. Or Angelo.

“There’s no sign of Fina, but the cameras picked up the same two men pushing a laundry cart into the service elevator, so that must be how they got her out of the hotel without being seen.”

He crosses the kitchen in a few strides and cups my cheeks with his hands.

“We will find her, and when we discover who’s behind this, I’ll make them wish they’d never been born.” He drops a kiss on my mouth, not caring that Luka still holds me on his lap. “Stay here with Luka and I’ll let you know the minute we find something, okay?”
