"They are going to kill you."

"They don't know. I'm not going to tell them."

"They are going to know when they find out you're dating their sister," he adds.

I shake my head. "I'm not dating her."

Silence again.

"Then why the fuck are you calling me?"

"I just ..."

"She's off-limits now, cuz. I'm happy you found her. But now you're screwed."

"I know. And what's even worse is she lives at the end of my hall."

Lincoln bursts out laughing. "You've got to be fucking shitting me. Karma has it in for you."

"Right?"

"She still as hot as you remember?" he asks.

"Yeah. Even more so."

He whistles down the line. "You're screwed."

"She's also the team's physio."

He bursts out laughing again. "The hits keep coming. Next time she rubs you down, you're going to have to think of something else. Otherwise, you're going to end up with a boner. And I don't think she's going to end your massage session with a happy ending."

"Fuck." I didn't even think about that. If she needs to work on me, I'm screwed. So, fucking screwed.

Lincoln just keeps laughing. "Thanks for the early morning jokes."

"Glad I could be of service in my hour of need," I grumble.

"You woke me up, you get what you get," he spits back. True. "Now, fuck off so I can get some sleep."

"Night." I hang up.

I'm so fucking screwed.

JOELLE

Iwake up to silence in the apartment. Usually, Collette is stamping around like an elephant. I check my phone and realize it's almost noon. I've slept most of the day away. Guess I needed it, jet lag is brutal. I roll out of bed, my body still feels heavy, exhausted, but I drag myself to the kitchen.

There's a note on the counter in Collette's loopy handwriting.

Went to brunch with Harper, Issy, Eve, and Vi.

Didn't want to wake you.

Back around 2.

Great, finally alone. Last night's party and shock have zapped my social battery for the day. No, the month. But I know Lettie is just going to give me today off the hook before I am forced to attend brunch. Not that I don't like the girls, they are great, but they are so much more extroverted than I am.
