The second officer didn’t waste any time getting out his cuffs.“You’ll have to come with us to the station, ma’am.”
“It was an accident.I swear.I didn’t mean it.”
“You not only damaged someone else’s property, but you also assaulted a police officer.”
Malena, who’d pushed me to the side, stepped closer.“Since the car is mine, the damage is not an issue.I was the one who pushed her, after all.And as for the assault, it was clearly an accident.”
They weren’t having any of it, though.Especially since I was obviously swaying on my feet.“Then we’ll take her in for public intoxication. But she’s coming with us either way.”
Next thing I knew, I was placed in the back of a police car.
Chapter five
Thegirlshadyelledat me not to say a word and that they’d take care of it.That had been two hours ago, and I was still sitting in a holding cell.I was almost sober again, a marching band had taken up residence in my head, and I had to go to the toilet so badly that only childbirth had caused me more pain.
But the toilet was in full view of the front desk. And there was simply no way I could do my thing with a stranger watching me.
I’d rather pee my pants.Which wasn’t far off at this stage.
The sound of a door beeping momentarily distracted me from my thoughts of deserts and anything that didn’t include water.
An officer stepped through, talking to the person at the desk.
They nodded, then stood up and unlocked my cell.
“You’re free to go.”
I jumped up, immediately regretting the decision when my bladder swayed precariously with the movement.“Really?”
“Just a suggestion, but don’t break off and throw any more mirrors. And seek help.Drinking is not the solution.”
Clutching my shoes to my chest, I nodded.“Absolutely.There are no mirror-throwing activities planned for my future. This was a one-off accident. And I won’t touch another drop of alcohol.”
I rushed out, following the officer so closely that I nearly stepped on his heels. But if I didn’t find a toilet soon, this night would become even more embarrassing. And I’d had all the embarrassment I could take.
He walked me out to the reception area, where I was greeted by Malena and Keely.
Malena hugged me, looking me over.“You’re embracing the ‘I’ve been in a holding cell’ aesthetic a little too much, chica.”
Sticking my tongue out at her, I looked around for a toilet.“Do you guys know if there’s a bathroom in the reception area?”
Keely put her arm around me.“It’s in the back.Go past the reception desk—”
She didn’t get any further because I rushed out the front door.No way was I going back there. What if they changed their mind about letting me go?
We walked down the stairs and into the cool night air, the concrete cold on my feet. But there was no time to put my shoes back on since my bladder was screaming for mercy.
“Give me a minute,” I called out before I pushed my shoes at Malena, then dove into the bushes to my right.I ripped down my panties, tearing them in the process. Then I crouched, finally getting sweet relief, while singing “Wheels on the Bus” the whole time because I couldn’t go if someone could hear me pee.
When I stumbled back out, it was to two smirking friends.
Tugging at my dress to make sure it was covering all my important bits again, I hid my panties in the bag that had been returned to me when I was released.“Okay, I’m ready.”
“Why didn’t you go in the station?”
“The toilet in my cell was in full view of the officer sitting at the desk.I get stage fright.I need at least a bush between me and another person or I can’t go.And there’s no way I was going to go back inside the station.”
They both shook their heads but thankfully dropped the subject.I sighed heavily once I was safely inside Malena’s car. After putting on my seat belt, I leaned forward.
