There was so much emotion bubbling inside me, it took everything I had to keep it in check.

She wiggled against me, both of us groaning at the friction. “More than okay. And if you don’t start moving soon, I’ll have to take matters into my own hands.”

I chuckled at her response. “Your wish is my command.”

I started moving, spurred on by Freya’s breathy moans. She scraped her nails down my back, keeping her body as close to mine as she could.

Our kisses turned more urgent and went from a gentle exploration to a desperate promise.

When we tumbled over the edge together, I lost her mouth as she threw her head back, her lips slightly parted in ecstasy. I loved how responsive she was to my every touch. I pressed tender kisses to her cheek and neck, our breaths mingling when I found her lips again.

“Well, I wasn’t expecting that,” Freya said, looking perfectly mussed and irresistible, a rush of pink staining her cheeks.

“Every time with you just keeps getting better and better,” I replied, then took her mouth in another kiss, unable to stay away.

She responded in kind, running her hands up and down my body, her lips nipping at mine. I could have lain there forever, wrapped up in her warmth.

“Sweet words will get you everywhere,” she said and grinned.

I pressed one last kiss to her lips before getting up.

Her hungry eyes followed me, and I was tempted to turn right back around.

I cleaned up, rushing to get back to her. It seemed like instead of getting my fill, I just became more addicted to her.

She melted into me once I settled back into bed, pulling her close.

“Is Gunner your real name?” she asked, her head on my chest, the tip of her finger tracing my tattoos.

“It’s a nickname. My real name is Elijah.” Nobody called me that anymore.

I should have known she wouldn’t just leave it at that though. “So why does everyone call you Gunner?”

“Like I said, it’s a nickname.”

She rested her hand on my chest and trailed her fingers back and forth. “I sense a story there.”

I brushed my thumb over her cheek. “There is. But that’s not for today.”

She seemed satisfied with my response as she continued her explorations of my body. We spent the morning in bed, getting to know each other. A deep sense of contentment and happiness enveloped me, something I couldn’t remember feeling since I was a kid.

Maybe instead of my downfall, she’d be my saving grace.

Chapter17

Freya

“Your turn.”

Gunner grinned at me from where he was standing in the frigid lake water. He was only wearing boxer shorts, his body on full display for my ogling pleasure. We’d spent the last two days mostly in bed, and I’d come to the conclusion that I was head over ass in lust with him.

But since he couldn’t keep his hands off me and I couldn’t stay away from him, we were a perfect match.

Our time together was rudely interrupted this morning by one of the traps going off. It reminded us that we couldn’t ignore the outside world forever, and we reluctantly got dressed to check the perimeter.

We made a trip of it, our last stop the lake. The ice-cold, “wouldn’t even go in when it’s summer” lake.

“No way. You’re on your own.” I backed away from the edge, not trusting him not to just drag me in.
