I know I can’t undo the past but I hope we can find a way to move forward…

Xo,

Waverly

I made sure I saved enough room to add my phone number and email address. Then I waited…and waited. And then I worried if his colleagues would read the card…

I had hoped I would have heard something back from him before I left my office for the day, especially since I stayed there until 8:00 p.m., as usual. But I didn’t. Then, right as I curled up into bed, with my cat, my cell phone sprang to life on my night table. Hope filled my heart.

11:10 – Hi Waverly, it’s Pete. Hope it’s not too late to text…

I fought the urge to let him wait for a reply. Because really, why play games at this point? Instead, I wrote right back immediately. Then, I added him to my contacts.

11:11 – Hi! Nope, not too late. I was actually doing a little work.

11:11 – At this hour?

I pinched the bridge of my nose. Nothing screamed fun or sexy less than a workaholic! Trust me, I knew from my score card of failed relationship attempts.

11:14 – Sounds like we’re both having a wild and crazy night.

It’s a real party over here…

Then with all the talk about fun, Mittens coughed up a hairball in the center of my comforter, instantly banishing more pleasurable ideas I had bouncing around in my brain about what else could be happening in my bed.

11:15 – Speaking of parties – how is the foot?

11:16 – Getting better each day! I only needed to take two Advils today!

Oh, and my doctor gave me a not-so-pretty shoe to wear…

Advil? Orthopedic boot talk? What was wrong with me? First thing tomorrow morning I should march into Sydney’s office and see if her third-grade daughter was available for texting lessons!

11:17 – Glad to hear you are on the mend...

So, I’m guessing professional dancing is

no longer in your future?

11:18 – Not so fast, mister! I think I have a little more twirl left in me…

11:18 – Twirl, huh?

I couldn’t help but blush.

11:19 – I bet you do…

My fingers hovered over the keys as I tried to come up with a witty retort, but Pete beat me to the punch.

11:20 – So I wanted to thank you…

Clara went berserk when I walked through
