It doesn’t take long before I’m coming, ropes of release spurting onto the wall before sliding down.

I’ve all but forgotten Greer in her living room when her voice comes through the phone.

“Koen?”

Anger washes through me at what just happened. Helms might be right. I’m too fucking deep with her to focus.

“Go to bed, poison. You’ve done enough damage tonight.”

Her head hangs in shame as she gathers her clothes and heads toward the bedroom.

I close my phone and stuff my dick back in my pants, looking at the ends of Greer’s possession as it dries stickily to the wall.

If I don’t get a handle on myself, everything I’ve worked for could go up in flames.

Walking back into the other room, I shove my phone in my back pocket, palming my gun as I cock it, aiming right at Sean as he whimpers louder, his wiggling that had ceased resuming.

When I get close to him, I press the gun to his forehead, removing his gag, which only fills the room with his demands to be set free.

“Please, man. I’ll do anything! Don’t kill me!”

“That’s what I like to hear.” I grin.

Joe walks into the room as I stand, looking down at Sean, whose lifeless eyes stare into oblivion above him.

“What do you think he sees now?” I ask Joe.

“Fuck man, I don’t know. Why you gotta cut them up like that?”

I shrug. “Calms me down.”

“You don’t look calm. Didn’t Helms tell you no extracurricular shit?”

“I’m not going to take him anywhere. The cleaners are on their way.”

He sighs as blood drips from my knife to the floor. “Did he give you anything?”

“A name. I don’t know what it means yet, though. I’ll look into it when I’m home.”

Joe looks away from Sean as if it pains him to see one of the city’s finest citizens sliced to smithereens. Turning, he walks toward the exit of the building. “Get out of here before the crew comes. I’ll handle them. And for fuck’s sake, don’t let anyone see you.”

My eyes flick to the dark beyond the windows above the exit. Dawn is approaching.

“I won’t.”

I leave covered in Sean’s blood, reeking of the stuff, which only makes me more feral.

He gave me more than just a name, but what he told me didn’t make any sense.

I’m not giving Joe or Helms shit until I figure out what the fuck is going on.

They should know better than anyone; I trust no one.

I’m so keyed up from earlier with Greer that I don’t go straight home. I go to her place, letting myself in with the key I’ve already copied from hers.

Bear pays me no mind as he lifts his head from his bed.

She’s sleeping deeply, thanks to the ten vodka tonics she had before falling into bed.
