I pecked his lips. “All I can think of is you, Lukas. It’s a pretty high bar; I’m not sure blood can top it.”
He pursed his lips. “Just you wait. I’ll be right back.”
Lukas was right. Holy shit, was he right. He came into the room, handed me a mug, and as soon as I smelled it, I chugged it like it was water. It was better than any Thanksgiving dinner, all the ice cream in the world, the first sip of coffee on a lazy Sunday. It was everything.
After it was empty, I placed the mug on the nightstand. “So, what do I do for the next month? Sleep, drink blood, watch TV?”
“Those are a few things you’ll want to do. Though after the month is up, you won’t require sleep. It will be a luxury you give yourself.”
“No sleep?” My eyes widened. “Seriously?”
He smirked. “Mmhmm.”
“What else?” I sat up and grinned.
“Everything will feel like more to you.” He ran his finger up my leg and shit, I felt his touch everywhere. He arched a brow. “Everything.”
I gasped. “Ohhhh.” I giggled and straddled him. “Let’s experiment with that first.”
His laugh was carefree, utter bliss. It was stunning. “You’ll be insatiable.”
“Challenge accepted. Let’s get naked!”
Sex as a human was good. Sex with Lukas was amazing. Sex as a vampire with Lukas was otherworldly. His fingers running along my arms, legs, and back, were like electrified silk, shocking and luxurious.
When he took me into his mouth, I swore I saw all the stars in the universe, flew higher than possible for anyone. I didn’t think anything could feel as good as this, and then he slid inside me and it was as if I were twisting through every emotion, every sensation. It was a tornado meeting a hurricane—terrifying beautiful, devastating…I didn’t want it to ever end.
I came with a shout, with a sob, with a laugh. Lukas didn’t pull away; we clung to each other, breathed…which was crazy. It was as if I didn’t need to breathe—I chose to. I tasted the world this way. Nuts.
Hours later, the sun was asleep and the sky twinkled, and I rested my head on his chest. This was my life, my forever now. Lukas and me dancing through time. I lifted up a little so I could see him.
“You okay?”
I smiled. “I’m perfect, Lukas. For the first time I think ever, I’m not scared. I don’t feel like I’m waiting for a phone call telling me my ticket’s been punched. I may never get to see what I’ll look like as an old guy, but I’ll get to live. I don’t think you know what a gift you’ve given me.”
“Oh, baby.” He moved so fast and had me on his lap and was staring intensely at me. “You are the one who has given me the gift. Sam, I love you. No one has ever been more stubborn than me until you came along with your need to be my friend. I wasn’t kind to you and yet, you never gave up on me.” He chuckled. “Thank you.”
I shrugged. “You were worth it.” I beamed. “I think my parents would have loved you.”
“Even though I turned you into a vampire.”
I glided my finger up his naked leg. “Probably because of that. When I was kid, I remember hearing my mom cry downstairs to my dad, saying she’d give anything to take away my cancer, to give me the world, to give me forever.” I sighed. “I may never get to see them again, Lukas, but I’m okay because this is what she wanted. She wanted me to live and I think they would be grateful to you.”
He pressed his lips to mine in a slow kiss. After we separated, my skin was buzzing. “I’m grateful to them for bringing you into this world, Sam. I promise to make all your seconds be everything you, they hoped for.”
“I know you will.”
“Let’s do it then.”
I smiled. “Do what?”
“Let’s get to living…both of us.”
That was exactly what I was going to do.
