Serayah looked pale, like she was going to pass out. “King, I’m really scared,” she said softly.

“I know, come on. Let’s go.” I got on the radio and let the guys know we were leaving. As we walked outside, Chase pulled up in the limousine.

It was a long, quiet ride back to her apartment. We were deep in thought. “King…” she said.

“Yeah?”

“There was someone in the bathroom. They were wearing a dark outfit, and not one that seemed like it belonged in a Valentine’s Ball. I think it was a hoodie.”

I turned toward her and shifted in my seat. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because I just wanted to dance with you, and I thought it was just my nerves from everything that’s happened messing with me. What if itwasthat person who took my stuff? Oh my god, what if they’re sitting somewhere sniffing my damn shawl like a psycho?”

The city lights passed by as we drove. I raised the privacy window between us and Chase and said, “Serayah… come here…”

There’d been tension building between us all night. Little moments. Little glances.

I patted my lap. “Serayah…”

Doe eyed, she finally scooted over to me and sat on my lap, wrapping her arms around me. She buried her face in my neck. I don’t know what I was thinking, but I embraced her. It crossed the line, but she was scared. I just wanted her tofeelsafe with me, because she was, and I wanted her to know it. I’d do anything to protect her. I reassured her, “Everything is going to be okay. Do you believe me?” She was crying and it gutted me. “Serayah, look at me.” She leaned back, so I gently touched her chin. It was a beautiful chin, and I wanted to kiss it. “Do you trust me?” I wiped a tear from her cheek.

She nodded. “Yes, I trust you. I believe you.”

I moved to kiss her. She met me in the middle and passionately kissed me back. I ran my hand along the back of her neck, softly, we kissed like it was our only chance to take what we wanted.

Serayah straddled me and whispered, “Oh god.” I pulled her to me, grabbing her ass as she grinded her hips into me.

I pulled away and said, “Look at me.” She was breathy as she leaned back. “Eyes on me, Serayah, don’t look away.” She bit her bottom lip as I stuck two fingers in my mouth and slowly reached down between us. I ran them along her pussy before pushing them inside. She gasped, moaned, and covered her mouth. “I pointed to my eyes. Right here, Serayah.” She struggled to open her eyes, but she looked at me, still biting her bottom lip. I worked her faster and faster, using my palm to rub her clit as my fingers worked her, tapping and pressing the spot, just a little way in, that would send her over the edge. Shecouldn’t take it anymore and threw her head back to come. I pulled her tightly to me, so she could bury her face in my neck to muffle her moans. “You ok?” I asked her.

She let out a small laugh and said, “What in the hell was that, King?”

“You seemed like you needed a little something to take the edge off.”

With a pretty laugh, she said, “Yeah… yeah, that took the edge off.”

Serayah ended up falling asleep leaning against my shoulder for the rest of the drive. Again, I crossed a line I shouldn’t have. I knew it was going to confuse her. Hell, it confused me. I wondered what I wanted from Serayah and whether I was ready to be in a relationship with her. I had my job to think about, and I didn’t want to fuck that up. Serayah was special, though, and we were growing close. Someone like me, who hasn’t had too many great things in life, appreciates that. I wanted to let myself want her. I just didn’t know if I could.

We finally pulled up to her apartment. “Serayah, wake up, beautiful.”

She let out a yawn and slowly sat up. I got out of the limo first so I could help her out when she whimpered, “Ow! My feet really hurt in these heels. Ugh.” Sleepy, whiny Serayah was cute. Adorable, in fact.”

After I closed the door, I turned to her and said, “Come here, sleepy girl,” and picked her up.

She wrapped her arms around my neck, and said, “Ya know, you can be really sweet when you’re not trying to be a grumpy asshole.”

Laughing, I said, “Ouch. A grumpy asshole. If that’s what I have to be to protect you, then that’s what I’ll be, I guess.”

I carried Serayah the entire way up the elevator, to her front door and set her down once we were inside. She reached down and took her heels off, then started to walk away, but stopped and came back to me, saying, “Stay with me.” Getting on her tiptoes, she kissed my cheek.

I let out a sigh. “You know I can’t do that.”

She kissed me again. “Stay with me, King.” She was killing me.

“I have to go. Goodnight, Serayah.”

“Goodnight, Muscles.”
