PROLOGUE
Iwatch as they scramble.Stupid fucking idiots.
You’d think by now they would’ve figured out I’m the puppet master— all of their movements are controlled by me.
Ariah didn’t understand, and neither did they— forcing my hand. There’s a plan, and I won’t allow any of them to deter what’s coming.
The power that will come with the union between the girl chosen and the heirs of Edgewood is too great to let some stupid decree, created by dead men centuries ago, dictate what was never the Fraternitas’ in the first place.
Men have ruled this world for far too long— foolishly. Wars, famines, and gluttony have destroyed us while they were at the ship’s helm, bringing us to calamitous existence.
It’s time for a woman to wield power— for us to finally get the job done, and in order for that to happen, the Fraternitas must fall.
“Are you ready?” I ask
“You know I’ll do anything for you,” Senator Baker says.
The fucking gullible fool.
Smiling, I say, “Soon, you’ll have it all. Just remember the plan.”
He walks closer, and I know what he wants— a small sacrifice for what I’ll gain.
I begin to strip off my clothes as he makes his final approach, his mouth finding my neck, causing me to groan.
He lifts his mouth from my skin. “Soon, my father will bow at my feet.”
Not wanting him to see me roll my eyes at his ridiculous notion that anyone would bow to him, I put his mouth to better use, pushing him down to his knees and opening my legs.
That’s the only place men belong.
As I grind his face into my pussy, I recite the only edict that matters.
Largitor vitae tuam divinam amplectitur foeminam pro eo quod gentes peperit.

WYATT
Iwant this event to hurry up and end so I can test just how well Ariah can keep up with me. She told me to bring it, and I fully intend to do just that.
I make my way around the room for the bar when I see Lydia rounding the table and heading for the exit.Lucky.At least she gets to leave this stuffy-ass party.
“What can I get you?” the man behind the bar asks.
“Just give me two bottles of water, please.”
It doesn’t make sense to drink anything else if I’m trying to exit stage left at the earliest possible moment.
“Here you go, sir.” He hands me the waters, and I make my way back into the crowd, hoping to find Riri and get out of this damn tie.
Whose idea was it to invent the damn bowtie?
Reaching up with my free hand, I loosen the band I feel is trying to choke the life out of me, and head for the door I saw Riri leave through earlier— she’s been gone too long.
I’m at the door when Lev nearly tackles me. He's moving so fast.
“Slow the hell down,” I grunt, grabbing his shoulder to slow his forward momentum. “Where the hell are you coming from?” I growl, staring behind him to the path that leads to where my Riri went.
