Gideon unpacked the drone where it sat at his feet then rolled down his window. He launched it and Logan hit the gas again.

“Impressive,” Koios said. “I’ve never seen you do that in real life. Nicely done.”

Gideon didn’t take his eyes from the drone’s controls. “What am I looking for?”

“Another drone. Do a wide view and give us a minute to analyze. Pretty sure I saw something, but….”

Koios had reprogrammed the SUVs onboard cameras months before. Instead of a 360 view of the car, they were able to see a live view of the vehicle’s surroundings with the click of a few buttons. Viewing from the ground was a lot better, in Koios’s opinion. The down-shots he normally got from satellite imagery could easily miss some of the finer details on the ground.

“Yep, a drone at two o’clock.” Pollux didn’t sound happy with the discovery. Not that Koios blamed him.

Koios laid across Ben’s lap to get a look out the window. “Gideon, take the drone up and give my brothers a wider view. Castor, is there only one, or do you see anything else?”

Castor tapped a few keys then responded. “Only one. Pollux is keeping a close eye on the SUV’s cameras. I barely caught a glimpse of this one. Whoever is piloting it knows what they’re doing.”

“Perhaps a security-obsessed valravyn who couldn’t be making it clearer that he doesn’t want visitors? Just guessing,” Ben said.

He wrapped his arm around Koios’s waist to hold him steady as he leaned over to look out the window as well.

“If he didn’t want visitors, then he shouldn’t have handed out a crippling curse,” Koios grumbled.

He glanced up at Ben to find Ben staring down at him with a small smile.

“Your eyes are doing the thing again.”

“What thing?” Logan asked.

Ben immediately began to blush. He really was Koios’s Gentle Ben.

“Um, sometimes, when, um…well?—”

“When you’re playing doctor with Ben, we get it. Go on,” Gideon said.

“Shut up. We don’t play doctor. Uh, do we?” Koios looked at Ben who shook his head. “That’s what I thought. But on occasion, my eyes have developed a gold and silver hue.”

“And you’re just telling us this now?” Logan asked.

“Well, it’s only happened twice,” Ben said.

“Let me guess. Both times were when you were playing grab ass with the good doctor.”

Koios kicked the back of Gideon’s seat. “Cut it out.”

“And you’ve never had this happen before?” Logan asked.

“Not that I’m aware of, but it’s not like I can see my own eyeballs and I’m alone a lot.”

“We wonder why,” the twins said in unison. Then they cackled.

Koios planned to lose the access to turn their bank accounts back on. He could also report all their credit cards as stolen. That’d be fun for them to handle.

“Enough about my eyes. I think we should keep going. The valravyn knows we’re here and at this point, turning back would be more of a red flag than us continuing and knocking on the door, so to speak.”

“I agree,” Logan said. “There’s no need to turn back. Castor, alert the rest of the pack about the drone and the security you’ve noted so far on the property. If we need backup, we’re going to need it fast.”

“Coal, Dasan, and Aleron are all ready to fly,” Castor said. “Do we need to get anyone else on standby?”

“If we alert them now, we could be risking our agreement with Cosmo,” Koios said. “Stay on comms and if you lose us, call in the calvary.”
