“Vin knew better than to offer her up directly as girlfriend material. He offered her a job. Tommy was a disaster back then, and Vin thought having someone handle the details might help. Tommy agreed—as long as she kept her hands to herself. And she did.”

“Until she didn’t,” I snipe.

“As far as I know, the status quo never changed. Vin hoped it would, but as the years went on, he said it was just as good that Tommy had someone taking care of him. Plus, I heard Una started dating other people—”

“Like Antonio.”

Olivia’s eyes widen. “The hottie at the Edge? When did that happen?”

“When he was living with me.”

She gives me side eye. “And you didn’t kill her?”

“I didn’t know,” I say flatly. “I mean, I didn’t know it was Una, but I knew he had a girlfriend. I wasn’t fucking him, so it didn’t bother me.”

“Wow, I heard that, but didn’t believe it. You really never once fucked that gorgeous man, even though—”

I shake my head. “I’ve only ever been with Tommy.”

The realization that that’s not true anymore, that someone else fucked me, that I’m pregnant with another man’s baby rolls over me like a truck, and I’m overcome with nausea.

“Holy shit, that is the sweetest fucking thing I’ve ever heard!” Olivia croons. “Vin always said he was suspicious that Tommy had only fucked you, too, so he always wanted to get him laid—Hey, are you okay?”

I stand abruptly and rush to the bathroom, falling to my knees in front of the toilet and vomiting all the pasta I ate earlier. Olivia follows me and holds back my hair, smoothing her hand over my back until I’m finally done. Exhausted, I sit back and rest my forehead on my hand.

“Hmm.” Olivia is texting rapidly on her phone, glancing at me with a strange look on her face.

“Please don’t text Tommy.”

She raises an eyebrow at me and keeps texting.

“I’m serious. Please.”

She sits down next to me on the bathroom floor and wraps her arm around my shoulder. “I’m no rat, Gi. But I am reaching out to another sister I think you need to meet.”

Tommy

I’ve been sitting in my car for over an hour, parked deep in the Edge’s underground garage, the smell of oil and exhaust giving me a headache. My phone screen is dark, my dozens of calls and texts to Giovanna unanswered, when headlights sweep across the windshield as Vin’s SUV swings into the space beside me.

He climbs out, whistling, way too casual for someone who’s late as hell.

“Where the fuck have you been?” I snarl as slides into the seat next to me and slams the car door.

Vin tosses a black duffle bag into the back seat then jabs a finger at it. “That’s where I’ve been.”

“What the fuck is that?”

“Cash money, brother,” he says, like that explains everything. “I’ve been unloading the Luminous jewels, hiring muscle, making things happen.”

“If you knew you were doing that, why did you tell me to meet you?”

He smirks. I don’t. Giovanna’s upset, and every second wasted here makes my jaw grind tighter.

“I knew you wanted to give Antonio his marching orders before he checked out of here, and I didn’t want to interrupt your farewell tour.” Vin glances around, lowering his voice. “Any luck finding the nurse? Berto? Jimmy? Dante? Any of the assholes tied to the kidnapping?”

I shake my head. Antonio had better come through on that point. That’s much higher on my list than finding Aurelio at this point.
