“I clean up my own messes, mi alma,” I say as I shift her panties aside before wiping the washcloth along her pussy. I move it along her upper thighs until I’m satisfied that she’s clean.
“You are seriously deranged. You know that, right?” Evie grumbles.
“I know. Now, tell me why you were upset before.” I stand to my full height, discarding the washcloth in the sink.
“Charlotte asked me why I didn’t go home. I didn’t know what to tell her and I freaked out, making up some bullshit about getting a call from my mother. Which just made it obvious I was lying because I don’t speak to my mother,” Evie rambles.
“Why don’t you speak to your mother?” I ask her.
“That’s not important. What am I supposed to tell Charlotte?” Evie stares back at me as if I’msupposed to have all the answers for her. I fucking love that look.
“Tell her your flight was delayed, then you heard about a shooting at the Royal. When you arrived, the reception staff told you about the incident.”
“Do lies always fall from your lips so easily?”
“It’s an occupational hazard. I have to think on my feet.” I lift a shoulder and refasten my pants. Evie looks down at my hands, and I grin. “You want round two?”
“You wish.” She smirks.
“I do actually.” I chuckle.
“I have to pee.”
“Toilet’s right there.” I point to my left.
“Get out.” Evie shoves at my chest, and I let her push me out of the bathroom, giving her the privacy she needs. It takes her five minutes to come out. When she does, I’m sitting on the hospital bed waiting for her. “You’re still here. Why?”
“Because you are,” I tell her.
“I’m going to see Charlotte.” She walks past me, towards the door.
“Evie.” I stop her just before she can open it. “Don’t hate yourself for giving into your desires.”
“I don’t hate myself. I hateyou,” she says.
“You always fuck men you hate?” I counter.
“Yes, because it’s easier not to get attached.” With that, she opens the door and walks out.
I find Paz sitting in the same plastic chair and fall into the one next to him. “We have to go back home. House needs cleaning,” I tell him.
“What happened?” he asks.
“Four of our own were waiting in the container to kill these guys.” I nod towards the window. My gaze falls on Evie.
Paz follows my line of sight. “What about her?”
“She’s not going to leave her friend like that. I’ll make sure Lailani knows her assignment’s changed. Evie’s safety is above anyone else’s.”
“She’s strong-willed. You really think she’s going to come around to your way of thinking?” Paz shifts his gaze to me.
I don’t tell him that she did justcometo my way of thinking. “She will,” I say. “She doesn’t have a choice.”
I knew I wanted to keep Evie before I fucked her. Now that I have, my need for her has just increased tenfold. I hate that I have to leave her here. I need to, though, especially if I ever plan on taking her home with me. I need to make sure there are no fucking threats coming from inside the house.
“I’ll get the jet ready.” Paz stands from his chair. “You good here?”
“Yeah, I’ll meet you at the hangar. Give me an hour,” I tell him before making my way into Charlotte’s room. “I’m glad you’re awake, Mrs. Guiliani.”
