“They’re not appropriate.” His mother grabbed him, trying to get him to turn around and look at her directly instead of through the mirror. “You need to stop thinking with your dick, Sebastian, and be reasonable!”

If Sebastian never heard his mother say the word dick again, it would be too soon. He sighed, allowing himself to be turned around.

“Mom, I like them, okay?” He pushed her hand away. “If I want to see where this goes, that’s my decision. I’m an adult. You don’t get to decide this for me.”

Viggo and Bjorn weren’t picking him up for another hour, but this time he wanted to be ready and at the door to head off what had happened last time. If his mother couldn’t be friendly, then she could stay away.

Leaving the bathroom, Sebastian walked down the stairs, his mother one step behind.

“They bought you, Sebastian,” his mother hissed, low and vicious as he made his way to the kitchen for some water. “You’ll never be their equal. I won’t have you throwing your life away to be a pet to a pair of psychotic werewolves. Sebastian, I’m talking to you, are you listening?”

Sebastian tuned her out.

“You will not go out with them again, do you understand me? You will stay here and you will-”

“Mom, if you don’t back off, I’m going to take Viggo up on his offer to live with them, do you understand?” Sebastian glared at her.

“You will do no such thing. I forbid it!”

Sebastian took a very long, deep breath. “Mom, I am a grown-up, you can’t forbid anything.”

“I can while you’re living under my roof.”

Sebastian just looked at her. She’d spent the past few days gradually working herself into a frenzy, reading all kinds of things on the internet and convincing herself that Viggo and Bjorn were a pair of psychotic perverts unable to control their basic instincts and werewolf urges, and it had all culminated in the evening’s rant which was now entering its second hour.

Listening to her was exhausting.

“Mom, you need to calm down and trust me, okay? Sure, it was scary when Viggo first picked me, but he’s not forcing me to do anything I don’t want to do and you should give him and Bjorn the benefit of the doubt.”

“I will not.”

Closing his eyes, Sebastian forced himself to be patient and reminded himself that his mother’s fear and anger were rooted in her love for him.

It didn’t help.

“Do you know what? I’m going to go for a drive. I can’t talk to you when you’re like this.”

Sebastian retrieved the keys to the Jeep Viggo had gifted him, shoving them in his pocket and walking out the door.

“Are you really that easily bought?” his mother asked, following him into the driveway. “A fancy new car and some money, and you roll over?”

“Don’t talk to me like that,” Sebastian growled, climbing behind the wheel.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean that,” his mother said, though the words had clearly come from somewhere. She wrung her hands. “I just can’t stand to watch you make this kind of mistake. It’s dangerous!”

Sebastian looked at her, wondering what to say to make her stop worrying. He couldn’t think of anything.

“I love you, Mom, but this is my life and my decision. I’ll be back tomorrow.”

“Tomorrow? You will not be-”

Sebastian reversed out of the driveway, leaving his furious mother behind and waving goodbye as he drove down the street.

His mother might be right that he was making a mistake, but if so, it was his mistake to make. He wanted to see where things went with Viggo and Bjorn, and it wasn’t just because they looked like something plucked right out of his most fevered wet dreams.

Helikedthem.

Pulling over and taking out his phone, Sebastian called Viggo and asked if it was okay if they started the date a little earlier than planned.
