“Makes sense,” Bjorn said. “How does your wolf feel about it?”

Viggo groaned. His wolf, other than repeatedly telling him how important it was that he didn’t let Sebastian slip away from them now that he’d so spectacularly proved his worth – was content with the violence already dealt. It saw no reason to get their sire involved.

The opinions weren’t conveyed in words, but Viggo knew his wolf well enough to know what he meant.

“He’s not fighting me,” Viggo said.

“Mine is in love with Sebastian.” Bjorn sounded just as smitten, smiling and hauling a box of folders onto the desk. “It was so annoyed with Marge and Bart for not having a plan to escape, and then Sebastian waltzes in and steals a keycard and gets himself out five minutes after being captured. If we fuck this up now, my wolf would never forgive us.”

Viggo laughed, his wolf poking at him to make sure he understood that he was in absolute agreement with his counterpart in Bjorn.

“He’s brave,” Viggo said, not just talking about stealing the access card. Sebastian had been thrown into a mess of a situation, or more accurately dragged into it, and Viggo could admit now that he’d been an ass.

Buying Sebastian from Life Mate, even if he needed him to fix Bjorn, had been a shitty thing to do.

“Yeah,” Bjorn said, grabbing his shoulder and squeezing. “And even though we’re absolute assholes, he seems to actually like us. Trust me, we’re not going to fuck this up. I promise.”

Viggo grinned. If Bjorn thought that they could do this, then they probably could.

“Now, are you going to call your dad before the Mercer alpha has some old army buddy of his hit us with a nuke?”

Shaking his head, Viggo took a seat behind the desk and picked up the phone. While the Mercer pack alpha had a lot of influence, a nuke was probably more than he could bring to bear. At most he might manage a small drone carrying a bomb.

Taking a deep breath, mentally preparing himself to deal with his father and whatever he might have to say about the mess Viggo found himself in, Viggo called his dad.

* * *

“That wasn’t too bad.”

Viggo glanced up at Bjorn, feeling more drained from talking to his father than he did from the moonrock.

Bjorn was right. Once his father had understood the severity of the situation, he’d been intensely focused, getting his second and third on the line and instructing them to start calling their allies in both human law enforcement and on the council and mobilizing them to assist in any way they could.

By the time Viggo hung up the phone, the feds and council representatives were on the way, his father’s third coming with them, and his father’s second was boarding the pack jet to oversee the council raid on the Mercer pack compound.

His father didn’t offer to come, and Viggo didn’t ask.

“It was fine,” Viggo said, standing up and letting Bjorn wrap him in a hug.

“All right, we’ve left everyone to their own devices for long enough,” Viggo said, pulling away. “And the humans, fuck. Are they still with Max?”

“As far as I know.” Bjorn rubbed his eyes, suppressing a yawn.

Viggo winced. “We should move them somewhere more comfortable.”

The next hours were tedious and exhausting. The police arrived first, the bloodshed giving them the shock of their lives and sending them into a panic. They tried to start arresting people, but thankfully the council representatives and feds arrived before things could get violent.

His father’s third arrived just minutes later, nodding at Viggo before going with the council representatives to oversee the collection of evidence.

Viggo, Bjorn and Sebastian gave their statements, after which his father’s third handed him the keys to his SUV and told him to take it and go home.

By that time, Viggo could barely stand upright, and Sebastian snatched the keys out of his hand with a concerned expression.

“You guys rest, okay? I’ll drive.”

Viggo looked at him. Tired and dirty, Sebastian still looked ten times more awake and alert than he did, and he was all too happy to let him drive.

“You’re pretty great,” he said, grabbing Sebastian by the neck and pulling him into a hug. “I’m so happy you’re mine.”
