Peter brightened, reaching into his pocket and pulling out his list. Madden’s eyes widened at the sight of it.

“Just a few,” Peter said. He’d comeprepared. “First thing, what would my day-to-day responsibilities be in this position?”

Madden smiled, soft like he was looking at an adorable puppy rather than a responsible omega who had done his research.

“Making drinks and manning the till, and cleaning up if there are spills. We have a cleaning service, but employees are expected to wipe down counters and tables and things like that.”

Nodding to himself, Peter moved on to the next question.

“What kind of training would I get, and would I get paid for the time it takes to train me?

“We have a one-week training program, and then after that, there’s unofficial training until you find your feet. Usually, that takes about three months. And yes, you would get paid for the time you spent in training.” Before Peter could ask his next question, Madden answered it. “Minimum wage, and tips are pooled at the end of each shift.”

Peter nodded. He worked his way down his list, Madden answering every question, and when he was done, he felt like the authors of all the blogs and advice articles he’d read would be proud.

“Anything else you want to know?” Madden asked, and Peter shook his head. “Great. Well, I think you look like you would be a good fit here, so if you’d like the job, it’s yours.”

“Really?” Peter couldn’t contain his grin.

“On a trial basis. If we find that you’re not a good fit, we won’t schedule you for any shifts. But don’t worry, we don’t do that without telling you first, and it’s not something we do often.”

“Thank you!” Peter said, vibrating with excitement.

“I’ll give you a call to arrange the date, but tentatively you’ll be starting on Tuesday morning at six. Sound good?”

“Very,” Peter said.

Madden held out his hand, and they shook on it. Madden then handed him a contract and told him to sign it and bring it with him when he showed up for his first day.

“Welcome to the team,” Madden said, rising from his chair and putting it neatly back into place.

Peter thanked him again and said goodbye, practically skipping as he made his way out the door and headed to the west-side campus Uber pick up spot.

He couldn’t wait to tell Tex and Carver the good news.

Tex

It was clear from the moment Peter stepped through the front door that he’d gotten the job. His grin was blinding, his whole face radiating joy, and when he saw Tex, his chest puffed up with pride.

Tex wrapped him in a celebratory hug, lifting him up and holding him tight.

“Congratulations!” he said, hoisting Peter up even higher so that he could give him a celebratory kiss, licking over his mouth and grinning. “When do you start?”

“I haven’t even told you I got it,” Peter said, making Tex scoff.

“You got it. When do you start?”

“Tuesday at six in the morning,” Peter said, grinning.

“I’m happy for you.” Tex kissed him again and put him down on his feet.

“Are you done hogging him now?” Carver asked. He was leaning against the wall with an amused smile, watching them. He didn’t wait for an answer, grabbing Peter and pulling him close before leaning down to kiss him.

“Congratulations, Peter. I know you really wanted this,” he said, splaying his hand wide over Peter’s jaw, angling his head up to deepen the kiss.

“I did,” Peter agreed.
