Though Carter would have been happy to stay in bed the whole day, having sex and luxuriating in John’s body, eventually John insisted on getting up and taking a shower. He slipped out of Carter’s grip and climbed off the mattress, heading to the bathroom while Carter rolled over and pressed his face into the dirty sheets.
They smelled like sex, and Carter’s cock hardened. It was the best smell.
“Fine, you win,” Carter said, getting up and heading toward the bathroom. Shower sex didn’t sound too bad, now that he thought about it. John’s body all slick with soap as Carter rubbed him down… he could work with that.
Except when Carter tried the door to the bathroom it was locked.
“John, you locked the door,” he called, pushing the handle down like maybe it was just stuck.
“Wait your turn,” John called back, sounding amused. Carter’s eyes narrowed. John wasn’t even going to let him have shower sex? What could he possibly have done to deserve this?
“But I want to fuck you in the shower,” Carter said, banging on the door.
“Maybe later,” John called back, making Carter scowl. He trudged back to the bed and sat down, disgruntled. His cock was hard, and he gave it a few strokes before dropping it.
His stomach was rumbling and he realized he hadn’t eaten since lunch the previous day.
“I’m going to go make us some breakfast,” he called out, pulling on a pair of sweats and heading to the kitchen. He decided to make pancakes, which he knew would earn him a whole host of brownie points from John. The guy loved pancakes for breakfast, and Carter could make them likenobody's’ business.
While he was mixing up the batter, Carter’s phone started ringing. He grabbed it off the counter, frowning when he saw that it was the witch Yolanda calling.
“Hello?” he answered.
“Mr. Peterson, this is Yolanda. I’m calling to let you know that I’ve had an opening in my schedule. I can be in Forest Hill to do the spell the day after tomorrow.”
Carter swallowed, suddenly nervous. He hadn’t told Yolanda yet that he’d changed his mind about the spell.
“I’m sorry, I’ve been meaning to call you. I just... I don’t want to go through with it after all.” Carter had no idea what the protocol was for cancelling on a witch, and that made him nervous. He didn’t want to offend her. “I understand that the fee I paid is nonrefundable and I completely understand. I’ve just… had a change of circumstance.”
“I see,” Yolanda said, her voice neutral. “Did you fall in love with your human?”
Yolanda didn’tsoundupset, which Carter took as a good sign. She just sounded… curious. Like Carter’s life was something vaguely interesting. It was a little disconcerting.
“Yes,” Carter said, honestly. There was a pause before Yolanda spoke.
“That’s going to be difficult for you. You have my sympathy.”
“Thank you,” Carter said. He was about to end the call and thank Yolanda for her time when Yolanda spoke again.
“Would you like to do the spell in reverse instead?”
Now Carter was confused. “I’m sorry?”
“You were going to transfer your feelings for the human to a wolf. Would you like me to reorient your pack bond instead so that the human becomes your pack? It would allow you to leave your pack without suffering any of the ill affects a lone werewolf would normally face.”
Carter’s wolf stirred uneasily at the suggestion. The pack bond wasn’t something you messed with, and even if it was, he wasn’t sure he needed to. When he was with his pack Carter’s wolf wanted to go to John, and when he was with John there was no urgency to go back to his pack.
Carter wondered if what Yolanda was offering might not have already happened naturally—at least to a degree.
“I’m not sure I need it,” he said. “I think… I think my wolf already considers him pack.”
“Is the human your mate?” Yolanda asked. She sounded genuinely curious now.
“Is that even possible?” Carter asked. As far as he knew, wolves only mated other wolves.
“Of course it is,” Yolanda said. “Though it is not something most packs accept. A remnant of the time when you hid yourselves from the human population, I think.”
