Carter closed his eyes, ignoring the part of him that said he should take the proffered chance to back out and texted back:
Meet me in the front hall at ten fifteen. Wear your uniform.
Carter’s cock hardened against his thigh, pressing against his suit, and he reached down to give it a squeeze. His phone beeped with another incoming message.
My uniform? Ha ha, okay. ;) See you at 1015.
Pulling his hand away from his cock, Carter turned the key in the ignition and let his phone drop into the cup holder next to his seat. His member was still throbbing against his muscular thigh, hard and eager at the thought of getting another chance at John’s tight ass, but Carter ignored it.
He’d save all that for tonight.
He pulled out of the parking lot and started the drive home, and he was halfway there when his phone started ringing. Looking down at the screen he saw Grayson’s name flashing back at him.
Ugh. That was the last person Carter wanted to talk to. He pressed the button on his steering wheel to answer the call through the handsfree, hoping that whatever Grayson wanted it would be something quick.
“What do you need?” he asked, answering the call. He hadn’t talked to Grayson at all since the fight with the Texas pack, the alpha ignoring him and not including him in whatever plans he was making to deal with the situation.
“I’m just calling to let you know that matters with the Texas pack have been settled. Alpha Stone has made reparations for his trespass, and we’ve agreed to resume the policy of no contact. I just thought I should let you know.”
Alpha Grayson sounded smug and pleased with himself, and Carter grit his teeth in anger. Taking a deep breath, he forced himself to calm down. He couldn’t afford to be taking on Grayson now. He had to wait until he heard back from Owen about the spell, and even then he couldn’t do anything unless he actually got a witch to perform it for him.
“That’s good,” he said. He managed to keep his voice surprisingly calm and reasonable. “I just want to put the whole fiasco behind me.”
“Really?” Grayson blurted out. He sounded surprised.
“You were right. All that politicking… it wasn’t for me. I honestly thought they were coming in good faith. Fuck it.”
There was silence on the other end of the line, and then Grayson coughed. The conversation clearly wasn’t going how he’d expected it to.
“Well, I handled it and they won’t be trying anything like that again.” Grayson sounded wary now, the smugness gone from his voice. He was obviously trying to figure out if Carter was playing him.
“Good. Was there anything else you needed?” Carter asked.
“No. That’s it. I’ll call you if I need anything.”
“All right,” Carter said. “I’ll be here.”
He hung up the phone, and then, tired of waiting, he grabbed his phone out of the cup holder and called Owen. The phone rang three times before the witch picked up.
“Hello?”
“Owen, it’s Carter. I was wondering of you’d found out anything about that spell you mentioned last week?”
Carter was almost home, and as he pulled into his driveway his hands were clammy with nerves.
“Sorry. I’ve been meaning to call you with an update,” Owen said, making Carter’s heart skip a beat in anticipation. “I asked my grandmother about it and she promised to look into it. She knows a lot more people than I do who might be able to help. She hasn’t gotten back to me yet, though. If you just hold on a second I call give her a call now and see if she’s found anything?”
“Please do,” Carter said. His mouth felt dry and he was lightheaded again.
“Okay, I’ll call you right back.”
Owen hung up, and Carter turned off his engine and made his way into his house. He didn’t stop to take off his shoes before he walked into the living room, dropping down on the couch and clutching his cell phone as he waited for it to ring.
When it finally did Carter almost dropped it in his haste to answer.
“Hello?”
“Hi Carter, I talked to my grandmother. She says she’s found someone who knows how to induce attraction, but she’s expensive. If you want she can arrange a meeting.”
