“With pleasure,” he sighed. The airy words danced over my skin, setting the nerve endings on fire with a need I’d only ever felt with this man.
So engrossed in him, I gasped when water spray hit me out of nowhere. “Give a guy some warning,” I mumbled, my lips hovering over his.
“Where’s the fun in that?” he asked.
Done with being teased, I took his mouth. As if on cue, a phone rang in the other room, and twin sighs of frustration filled the air.
“He’ll only keep calling.”
“Why?”
“Because…” I didn’t know what to say next. I loved Parker Holt like a brother, a best friend, a teammate. But the man could be a selfish shit sometimes. I wanted to say it was because he wanted to make sure Alex showed up at the bar to embed himself further into the fabric of the team. But I didn’t know for sure. I knew he wanted more with me, but that was years ago. He’d been playing the field and living his best Dom life in the kink clubs in the area.
“Yeah, that’s what I thought. Get cleaned up. I’ll answer the phone, let Parker know‘Sandy’isn’t showing up, but Alex willbe there with bells on and a raging hard on thanks to his cock blocking ass.”
CHAPTER 15
ALEX
Ignoringthe still ringing cell phone, I crossed to my dresser and pulled out some clothes for Daniel. My shirts were a no-go with his brawn, but ball shorts, socks, and—checking the size on his dress shoes, which were lying discarded in the bathroom’s doorway—sneakers would do. He always wore a tank under his dress shirts so he could get his ass downstairs without flashing anyone. I dropped the clothes on the vanity with the dress shirt and tank he’d left there when he stripped, then headed for the living room, where I dumped my keys and cell when Daniel and I first arrived.
I flipped open the now yet again ringing phone and said, “You can be a cockblocking bastard, you know that?”
“Poor, little, baby SEAL. You’ll be fine. I’m sure Elle will take care of you later.”
“Am I on speakerphone?”
“Fuck no.”
“What’s with the fucking names?”
“It’s me being a supportive friend and team leader.”
“Supportive friend and team leader?”
My doubt must have conveyed over the cell connection and through the craziness of the background noise, which madehearing him hard because he said,“I think I’m being uber supportive.”
“We need to have a conversation about the definition of supportive.”
“Is that Alex? Alex! Alex! Come get your drink on! There’s plenty to go around.”
It was hard to tell which of the guys from the team were yelling for me in the background, it sounded like Chris and Jason, but it was hard to tell, either way, I got the gist, and it confused the fuck out of me. “Is the bar known for running out of liquor?” I asked.
Parker laughed.“No. He meant frog hogs.”
“Fuck.” I fucking hated this shit. Hated it with a motherfucking rage-inducing passion that made me want to turn postal.
“Walker, I’m gonna duck out for a smoke. I’ll be back in a bit,”Parker said. The smoke thing seemed weird to me. I’d never seen the man light up even once since I joined the team nearly a month ago.
“What…” I began, only for him to interrupt.
“Give me a minute.”
I waited, heading back to the bedroom. I needed to get dressed myself if we were going out, except I didn’t know what the guys would be wearing. Deciding jeans and boots would be okay, I pulled those on while holding the phone between my ear and shoulder.
“Okay, I can talk,”he said with a huff. The sound of a heavy metal door echoed in the background. Before I could say anything, he said,“I’ve got your back. Same as you’ll have mine and Daniel’s and anyone else you meet in the service that the shoe fits.”
“Good to know.”
