“It has nothing to do with a pack being weak but with the ever-increasing presence of an enemy. A war is approaching. There is no avoiding it. We must unite together and band against a common enemy. This is much bigger than you all know. The demons are going to make their move to claim all of the earth’s surface. If we don’t act now, there may never be another opportunity to defend ourselves.”
Yelling and snarling immediately filled the air. The idea of going to war with demons made some of the alphas nervous and even angry. Not everyone had been troubled by demons, and those failed to see how this was their problem. Others were demanding they all unite, having had mass casualties. The loud voices and growling continued to rise, the room echoing with the increasing anger of the growing mob, with alphas lashing out at alphas.
The red energy inside Hunter started resonating within him. The light grew and seized his body as a mighty roar escaped his lips. “SILENCE!”
The growling and shouting ended, and everyone turned to look at him immediately after his command.
Hunter growled and looked out over the other alphas. An authoritative strength spread through him as he cast his commanding glare over everyone.
“There is no choice in this matter. The packs will unite and fight against the demons when the time comes. We will defend our territory. We will protect our kind. We will join forces with those who fight against the demons. This is our one shot, and I will not let anyone’s pride get in the way of this. This moment is too important,” Hunter snarled out angrily. Power filled his voice, a strength he’d never felt before. “Is that understood?”
“Yes, Alpha,” all the wolves said in unison.
Hunter looked over the room, wide-eyed.What just happened here?He felt a strange power continue to seep out of him. He watched as his uncle Drew and Luke approached the podium cautiously.
“What is it?” Hunter asked.
“How long have you known?” Luke whispered, awestruck.
“I never thought I would live to see this day,” his uncle Drew said in a breathy voice.
Hunter chuckled, hopping down beside the two men. “What are you senile men talking about?”
“Do you know what you just did?” Luke asked, his eyes widening in shock. It was apparent that the young alpha in front of him didn’t have the slightest idea.
“He doesn’t even know.” Drew looked at Luke, then returned his gaze to Hunter.Just wait until Asher and Lita find out.He couldn’t believe it. But he’d witnessed it himself. He’d felt it inside him. There was no denying who his nephew was.
Hunter looked up at the still-quiet crowd. What was he missing? He looked back at the two men in front of him, raising his brow at them. “Would you care to enlighten me, then?”
CHAPTER NINE
“You really have no idea what you just did, do you?” Drew smiled curiously at his nephew, watching him shake his head. “You just ordered everyone in here. You commanded all of them.”
Hunter’s eyes widened. “How? I was able to order the other alphas too? And other packs? I don’t understand.”
Sam walked up next to Hunter so that he could hear better. He’d also felt a very deep, primal feeling when Hunter barked for them to be quiet. He was waiting for confirmation from the two men in front of him.
“Hunter, I never thought this day would come in my lifetime, but it has. Today, a werewolf leader was born. Congratulations, son. You are now the ruler of the werewolves. Their king.” Drew smiled proudly at his nephew.
Luke watched Hunter’s eyes and could see the confusion in them. “Don’t you remember reading werewolf history? Remember how there was a part that talked about an alpha that would unite the packs? This alpha would be King of the Werewolves, and his lineage would continue to be werewolf royalty.”
“I did feel a strange power inside of me then. I just thought it was related to my fairy side,” Hunter whispered out.
“This is your destiny. You were born to unite the werewolves. You have power over all our kind. I could not have picked a better man for the position. You aren’t one to abuse his power. You will lead us all to prosperity.” Drew reached out and placed a hand on Hunter’s shoulder. “I am so proud of you. I know your parents will be as well.”
Hunter chuckled a bit. “So much for eventually moving to Elysia.”
“Yeah, I don’t think that’s in your future, young king,” Luke said with a small grin.
Hunter shook his head. This was all very surreal to him.
“We all felt it. It was like a power inside of you just connected with us. I could recognize your aura anywhere now. It’s weird to admit as an alpha, but it makes me want to naturally extend my neck to you in submission. Now tell me that isn’t the power of a king.” Luke leaned back on his heels and shook his head.
“Well, Hunter. I don’t think anyone in this room can deny who you are.” Drew looked back at the others, who were staring at Hunter in awe. “We are the leaders of our packs, but you are now ours. I guess you should probably address everyone, but know now that whatever you say goes. No one will dare go against it, not that they could ignore an order from a supreme alpha.” Drew stood back a step from Hunter.
“Why me, though? Why was I chosen to be the Alpha King?” Hunter whispered quietly, mainly to himself.
“Your mother was the daughter of an alpha and your father an alpha himself. That makes you a true alpha. I guess the Moon Goddess chose you for this reason.” Luke shrugged. “This is her doing. We are her children. She must know you have a good heart.”
