“He has found his mate,” Levi said, looking out in the distance. “Actually, Xander … we need to talk.”
Caden finally began to stir, and all attention snapped back to him. Asher and Lita both knelt at his side as his eyes opened. He looked around at everyone in confusion. He looked relieved to see Sam and Hunter, and everyone else was alive, thank the gods. But then a small frown formed. He rose onto his arms, trying to sit up.
“Easy, Dad,” Sam said.
“He’s fully healed, physically. He should be fine,” Reiya said, as he gazed at her.
“I feel weird,” Caden said quietly, searching through his thoughts. “Wait … I died, didn't I?” Then his eyes widened in shock as he noticed something else. “My wolf … I can’t reach him.”
“I’m sorry, Caden,” Lita said, grabbing onto his hand. “Your wolf didn’t make it. But Reiya managed to save you. She kind of turned you into a fairy now.”
“I know you’ll need some time to adjust to being without your partner, and I am sorry for your loss. But I’m so damn glad you’re still alive,” Asher said, wrapping his arms around Caden from behind and letting his tears fall onto his friend’s shoulders.
Caden’s lips thinned, and he reached up to pat Asher while holding onto his son with his other hand. He would need time to mourn the loss of his wolf. It was a part of him, and he would miss him, but he would never forget his sacrifice. He looked up at Reiya and gave her a small smile.
“Thank you, Reiya. I’m thankful for what you did. I couldn’t imagine leaving my family already.” Caden did appreciate what she had done. He felt different and would need some time to adjust to this new life. A life without his wolf.
Levi stood up, lifting Reiya to stand beside him. He then turned his gaze toward the approaching presence.
“Ken. Thank you for your help,” Levi said as he watched the deity’s gaze fall onto Reiya. His brows furrowed as he looked at her, causing a small growl to sound from Lee’s throat. He snapped his gaze back up to him.
“Ken? Is that your name?” Asher locked eyes with the deity who called himself the Kraken.
“Yes. And now, thanks to you, I am free to roam over the land for a while, giving me time to break this damn curse of mine.” He looked back at Reiya and then up at Levi. Then a bright flash of light appeared in front of everyone.
“Now would you look at that. The entire Chain family lives, and so do you, Levi. Thank you for joining in as well, Ken,” Selene said sweetly.
Ken scoffed. “What game are you playing, Selene?” His eyes flashed over her with contempt.
Levi thought Ken’s reaction to Selene was curious, but he was more concerned about what Selene wanted now, and that was for his mate to enter the black hole.
Selene smiled and winked at Ken but then turned to Reiya and Levi. “I will now rebind your souls.”
“Wait a minute … you unbonded us?!” Reiya asked and felt Lee’s arms tense around her. “And you knew?”
“I foresaw a future where Levi died at the hands of Mephisto. I predicted several events that I managed to change the fate of.” Selene looked over at Ken again with a strange smile on her face. She grinned wider as he growled at her.
“You shouldn’t have a problem making it out of the black hole now.” Selene looked at Reiya, who returned her gaze questioningly. Ken growled furiously, muttering curse words under his breath. He ran his hand angrily through his hair.
Reiya was sure she heard Ken grumble the words ‘crazy moon bitch’ but wasn’t sure. She looked up at the goddess. “Why is that?” She then looked up at Lee and raised her brow at him. They would be talking about this unbinding thing later.
Selene grinned. “Let’s just say that Ken here will also help lead you back, along with Xander."
Ken growled again loudly. “We’ll talk more about this later,” he said in a lethal tone and stormed away.
Selene started laughing. “Well, now that he’s back on land, he can start working on those people skills.” She looked up to see Levi glaring at her with his baby blue eyes. “Now, now … you owe me as well. Let’s keep those mean old negative glares to yourself. Besides, I just ensured your mate’s return.”
“How exactly?” Levi asked.
Selene winked at him and inhaled a deep breath of fresh air happily. “You’ll find out soon enough.” Her eyes settled onto Reiya, whose eyes widened. Selene loved how quick-witted she was. Reiya already understood perfectly well.
“Well, are you two ready for this?” she asked, shifting her gaze from Reiya to Hunter.
“Honestly, I just want to get this all over with. The sooner the better,” Hunter said, and Reiya nodded in agreement.
“Right. Let’s get this over with so we can move on to the after party.” Reiya felt Lee’s arms tighten around her. She leaned her head back into him. “We aren’t saying goodbye. I’ll be back, Lee. Wait for me.” She felt his lips touch her neck.
“I’ll wait for you forever,” he whispered into her neck.
