Gabriel
A thrill shot through me as she pulled in the driveway, but it quickly disappeared when I saw her face.
She stormed past me, anger radiating from her flushed skin. While it was sexy as hell to see her riled up, my protective instincts outweighed the urge to fuck the scowl off her face.
She spun to face me, and every muscle in my body tightened with rage. Bruises were forming on her arm from the prick grabbing her. A ringing sound roared in my ears, momentarily blocking out her voice. My vision darkened around the edges, fury invading every cell of my body.
A war commenced inside me. My heart wanted to soothe her distress while every other part of me wanted to kill the motherfucker who dared to touch her.
My heart won the battle, proving her needs will always come first.
Once she went home, I called Eric. He listened intently as I recounted what happened.
“I want Trevor watching her at all times.” This isn’t a solution to the problem, but I want herprotected when I’m not around.
“Done. I’ll let him know now. Anything else you need from me?”
“Find him.”
Eric hums his agreement. “Yes, sir.”
As I enter the bathroom, I call Eric.
“Boss.”
“Black SUV has been parked across from her house all day. Trevor didn’t fucking notice?”
Eric and Trevor are good men, and I trust them both, but I’m pissed neither said a fucking word to me about it. I’m also pissed at myself, since I didn’t notice it when I got here.
She consumes all my senses, and I can’t afford to have tunnel vision with her ex back in town and Johnson up to no good. I need my guys on high alert.
“We know about the SUV. Trevor couldn’t get the tag number to run the plates without blowing his cover. Brooke’s been at the window multiple times today, and we didn’t want to alarm her. He’s watched the vehicle all day and nothing has happened. Someone is watching her, Gabe. I need those fucking numbers.”
Sighing deeply, I’m grateful Trevor stayed hidden. I don’t want Brooke to know he’s watching her, but I also don’t want him putting himself in harm’s way until we know what we’re dealing with.
I doubt Brian is behind this. He’s a fuckingmoron.
I’m more concerned about this being a move by Johnson.
Calling out the tag number, I tell him to let me know as soon as he gets any information. Ending the call, I jump in the shower, my brain replaying everything that’s happened today. It’s no coincidence she runs into her ex after two years, and someone is stalking her house the same day.
I can’t see the damn connection, though.
The clicking of the bathroom door pulls me from my thoughts. The light sound of clothes hitting the floor drifts to my ears. The shower door opens and my breath hitches, my eyes roaming the naked goddess before me.
“Mind if I join you?” She’s hesitant.
“Get your sexy ass in here.” As soon as she steps in, I grip her hips, pushing her against the tile wall. “What’s wrong, baby?”
She closes her eyes, tipping her head back against the wall. “This has been a weird ass day. The shit with Brian and now someone’s watching my house. I’m trying not to worry, but I can’t help it.”
“Look at me.” Her eyes snap to mine. “You have nothing to worry about. You’re mine, and I’ll protect you. You’ll let me know if the SUV comes back. You’ll let me know if you see Brian again. I’ll take care of it.”
She exhales, nodding her head. “I’m sorry this is happening. My life hasn’t had a hint of dramasince divorcing him. I meet you and my past comes back to haunt me. If it’s too much, I wouldn’t blame you if you wanted to break…” Her voice trails off and she doesn’t finish.
Red. I see fucking red.
Gripping her chin with my fingers, I grind my teeth, barely holding myself together. She gasps, no doubt seeing a side of me she isn’t familiar with. “Listen to me closely because I’ll only say this once. Be glad you didn’t finish that sentence. I’m not going anywhere. Do you hear me? I’m yours as much as you’re mine.”
