I snorted. "Translation please."
"Don’t you have an ‘A’ in Spanish?”
"Yeah, but I memorize for the test and it all kinda leaves my brain after that."
He removed himself from me. "Use google translate."
"That's not fair!" I whined as I turned around to face him. "You don’t speak Spanish around me often, and then when you finally do you won't tell me what you said."
Javi’s head cocked to the side. "You want me to speak Spanish more often?"
"Duh."
"Why?" Javi asked. "You just said that you can't understand me."
"Yeah but..." I trailed off. My gaze fell to the ground as I bit my lip.
"But what?" he probed.
Maybe it was the exhaustion taking over that got rid of my usual filter. I don’t believe that I would have spoken my mind if I had slept properly.
"It's hot," I said with a simple shrug.
Javi’s brow raised and then the subtle shock morphed into an amused smirk. "Okay, noted."
"Noted?"
"Noted."

We arrived at the large, busy airport in no time. The first thing we did was check in our bags and then moved on to security. Baggage check was just as overwhelming as I expected it to be. I had always heard terrible things about it, how they barked orders as they rushed you to put your items through the x-rays. It was exactly like that, so my movements were stiff out of anxiety. I was relieved when we finally made it through.
After we got out of that mess, we were ready to find our terminal. Our student council teacher set up a specific time for us to meet up and we were early. Thank God because we got terribly lost and it turned out we were on the complete wrong side of the airport. That was a fun spike of panic.
But alas, we made it and there were more of our classmates going than I realized. I knew that anyone could go on the trip if they wanted to, so I should have figured that there would be a lot of interest. Now we had an hour to wait around until we could board the plane.
"Go find your friends, I'm going to go talk to the other chaperones," Anita said. She scanned the area and found a group of parents to go mingle with.
Javi and I searched the area to see if our friends had arrived yet. We saw many of the usual student council club members, but neither me nor Javi could find our friend group. We figured they were still trying to get here until Justin appeared before us.
"You haven't been to school in a full week," Justin stated blandly. "It was lonely not having you to bicker with at lunch, but at least you're back now."
"I don't have the energy for our normal routine of bickering," I said dryly.
Justin pouted. "What? But it's our love language."
Javi nudged me in the shoulder and pointed ahead of us. He had spotted our friends in the mix of all of our irrelevant classmates. We started to make our way there and I assumed Justin was following, but when I turned around, he was standing in place.
I turned my head over my shoulder. "Are you coming?"
“No. I’m going to go be with my girlfriend,” Justin said proudly. His eyes landed on Diane as she sat by the large windows and spoke to her friends.
Damn, Diane moved on quickly.
Then again, so did Javi.
