Cody’s eyes shot open and he nodded, excitement lighting up his face.

Well, say something.

Cody giggled.I love you, babe.

I love you, ma moitié.Dylon draped his arm over Cody’s waist and pulled him to him.I think it’s time to take a quick shower before we go to sleep, my pet. We’ve a lot of stuff to do so we can leave.

Okay, I love you so much babe.

Dylon kissed his mate, and then whispered against his lips, “Ma moitié, my love for you is absolute and infinite. My life is so much richer now that you’ve entered it and I will be forever grateful to the Fates who gave me the perfect half of my soul.”

Cody smiled shyly, overwhelmed by Dylon’s expression of love, “Thank you, darling.”

Oracle was sitting in her suite in San Francisco looking out over the darkening skyline when she saw the half white and half grey wolf spirit frolicking on the night breezes. She smiled, knowing all was well with Cody. But they had to return tonight as she would be needed tomorrow to tell Cody about his gift. She wondered if he or Dylon had guessed what it was. Probably, since they were both very smart.

Her thoughts zeroed in on Dylon. What a perfect mate for Cody. Oracle thought about what Cody was facing in Tajikistan but no longer worried about what might happen to Jackson’s remarkable brother. Dylon would be with him and together they would come through it even if Cody failed. She shook her head, trying to dislodge the sense of impending doom she sometimes felt. That’s what happened when the Fates didn’t disclose everything to her. Her human emotions took over, imagining the worst in any situation.

She rose and called, “Maximus, we have to leave tonight.” Not hearing a response, Oracle walked down the hall and entered the office her husband was using to keep tabs on the progress of the peace conference. Seeing her husband on the phone, she circled the desk and sat down on his lap after he pushed back his chair.

Maximus was listening intently to what was being said, and then replied, “What do you mean something’s not right?” He gave his wife a quick kiss and whispered, “I’m talking to Slate.”

“Tell him I love him,” she whispered back.

Then in response to Slate, Maximus said, “If your gut is telling you something is wrong, then listen to it. Your mother just came in and I’m pretty sure we are heading back to Steel and Jackson’s house tonight. I’ll talk to Ian in the morning and see if he can shed any light on the situation over there.”

Running his hand up Oracle’s leg, Maximus smiled at his wife. She was still as beautiful as the first time he ever laid eyes on her. Turning his attention back to his son, he said, “Just continue with the conference schedule as planned. Call me tomorrow after the last meeting and by that time, I’ll have talked to Ian. Just be careful. Do you want more enforcers?”

“Uh-huh, well okay then. Oh, and your mother sends her love.”

“Yes, I’ll pass it along. Bye now.” Maximus hung up and said to his wife, “Slate sends his love. So, time to return, huh?”

Chapter 28

“My parents arrived late last night,” Steel said to Jackson who was lying on his chest while they were in bed the next morning.

Surprised, Jackson asked, “Why? I thought they were going to come back when Frank and Lizzie did. And how do you know about it?”

“Last night was my turn to get up for Daniel and when I was warming a bottle for him, I heard them come in.”

“Did you ask them why they changed their minds?”

“Yup, Mom said Cody needed her today regarding his gift.”

“Bollocks! I wonder what it will be? Something to do with his foresight, I bet,” Jackson said. “I hope he doesn’t plan on keeping it a secret like Colton did.”

“Bollocks? You mean balls? Why are you using that?”

“I’m trying it out as a substitute for the ‘F’ word,” Jackson said, smiling. “Sounds great doesn’t it?”

“No, not really. ‘Fuck’ has that ‘je ne sais quoi’. Bollocks doesn’t even come close in comparison.”

“I’m sorry but then, you come up with something. I mean it, babe, our son is not going to say ‘fuck’.”

“Okay, but I’m pretty sure you are fighting a losing battle.”

“Not if you back me up on this. Think about it and come up with a word everybody can agree on.”
