Victor.
As he tries to tiptoe to my side of the bed, I almost let a loud laugh. And I place my hand over my mouth.
“Do I look that funny when I tiptoe?”
“Like a ballerina.”
I can’t hide the simmering smile that stretches on my mouth.
Massive Victor is looming over me.
“May I?” He points to the bed.
My heart is about to blast out of my chest.
“What? No.”
He grins and shakes his head.
“May Isiton your bed?” He emphasizes the words.
“Oh,” I manage to say while the blood rushes to my cheeks.
I’m pretty sure he can clearly observe my face with all that supernatural moonlight shooting into the room.
The bed squeaks and dips as two hundred and thirty pounds of sexiness sits next to me.
“I heard you moving around and got distracted,” he kind of whispers, but his voice is husky and deep, making it impossible to sound quiet.
Victor’s giant hand reaches to my face, and I hold my breath. I wait for the uninvited sensations running through my body to disappear. His hand delves into my hair, fingers spreading, and then proceeds to trace my jawline with so much gentleness that I release the breath I was holding. But it leaves my lips more like a moan. A shiver passes through my body, trembling.
“I won’t hurt you. Not ever, Tia.”
Victor misunderstands my body’s reaction, and I’m thankful for the disguise.
“I don’t know you.”
The last thing I need is to be interested in a guy—this guy.
“Then get to know me.” The corners of Victor’s gleaming eyes wrinkle.
“I can’t.”
He gives me a questioning look, but I’ve exhausted my quota of answers for today.
“Why?”
“I can’t.”
This guy makes my blood run faster in my veins. It can’t be his hotness. There were other handsome guys at school, and I didn’t drool over them. I just noticed them and appreciated their beauty. But this man… This man’s intensity reaches deep into my soul, awakens it, and makes me want to stay.
Not happening.
“Are you comfortable with me sitting here? I can keep you safe while you fall asleep.”
This sounds so welcoming, so good. “I’m fine. You don’t have to stay.”
Victor takes my cell phone and earbuds from my hands and plays with my phone, ignoring my last statement.
