“I’m not sure I’m ready to give you details, but let’s just say it was good. Better than good.”

The squeal that leaves her mouth has Edna coming out from the back to check on us, and me blushing like a virgin who just lost her virginity. Literally.

“Oh my God, I’m so jealous. I can’t wait to lose my virginity.” I give her a pointed look and she waves her hand at me. “You know what I mean.”

And I do. Kind of. The details surrounding Autumn's conception are vague. Something about a one-night stand that Penny refuses to go into detail about. It’s something I don’t think she’s even told her parents about. The only thing I know is that it only takes one time to get pregnant. One time on birth control and with a condom. I think we can all agree that Autumn was meant to be if she slipped through like that.

“Have you tried texting or calling him to see when he’s going to be home?”

I shake my head. “No. And I haven’t heard from him all day either. He’s pretty secretive about his job. Something about keeping things confidential for his clients.”

“That makes sense. Are you going to go to back to his house and wait for him… naked in his bed?”

I grin at her and give her shoulder a light push. “No. I’m probably going to go home and nap and hope he doesn’t realize I was disappointed that he wasn’t there when I woke up.”

“Home, huh?” She smirks.

“Shut up.” I laugh at her. I was hoping she didn’t catch that. “I’m going to head out if you don’t need me anymore. I need to text Kyle that I got my camera back.”

“Wait, what?” Her eyes go wide.

“It’s a long story and I’m dead on my feet. Let’s get together soon. We have a lot to talk about.”

“Yeah, go. Get laid while the rest of us work,” she jokes.

I smirk at her and grab my bag and head for the door. Before I walk out, I turn and ask, “Hey, is there a reason why someone would wear glasses that weren’t prescription?”

She pauses from wiping down an already clean table. “People are big on those blue light-blocking glasses if they look at a screen a lot. Why do you ask?”

I shake my head. “No reason. Call me tomorrow if you need me, otherwise, I’ll see you on Monday.” I wave and head out the door.

Lucas’s car is in the driveway when I get to his place, and nerves creep in as I get closer to the front door. I can’t wait to see him, but at the same time, what if last night didn’t mean as much to him as it did to me?

I’m ready to turn the doorknob and open it when it swings open on me, and Lucas stands on the other side.

“Lucas, wh–” I don’t get a chance to finish my sentence because he’s on me a second later.

He grabs my face and slams his mouth over mine like he hasn’t seen me in a month when it’s only been several hours. The kiss is full of desperation as he sucks my lower lip into his mouth. I moan, and he uses the opportunity to tangle his tongue with mine. I melt into the taste of him, and he doesn’t let up as he devours me. Any nerves I had walking up to the housevanish as he deepens the kiss. It’s rough but sweet. The perfect juxtaposition.

After I don’t know how long, our front door make-out session finally slows. “Fuck, I needed that,” he whispers against my lips, pulling away and then coming in for one last lingering kiss.

I hold onto his wrists and rub his pulse. “What was that for?” I ask softly.

“I just… I just needed you. That’s all. I missed you.”

He looks disheveled. Like he’s been running his fingers through his hair. His glasses are gone and he’s not wearing a shirt, shoes, or socks, but he still has his dress pants on like he was in the middle of changing when he opened the door.

The look is devastating on him in the best possible way. If it weren’t for his partially distraught demeanor, I would climb him like a tree.

Instead, I give him a small smile. “I missed you too,” I say honestly. Because I did. Even though there are a lot of things I still don’t know about him, I did miss him today. We’ve spent the last week getting acquainted, enough for me to feel one hundred percent comfortable and safe in his presence. It’s not just that he’s extremely attractive, but he’s funny, attentive, and thoughtful as well.

I hate that I questioned him last night or that I had any right to. We all have secrets and it’s not like we’re together. He doesn’t owe me anything or vice versa. What I do know is that I like spending time with him, and he always gives me his full attention when we’re together. He’s slowly pulling me out of this dark fog that’s been following me for years and it’s more than I could ever ask for from someone.

Lucas pulls me inside and brings me to the kitchen. “I was going to make something to eat, are you hungry?”

I hop up on the island. “Sure. Put me to work.” He opens the fridge and pulls out stuff for deli sandwiches. “So…uh… how was work?” I try to lead with small talk but in reality, I’m seriously curious about his job.
