“Right.” Another sigh. “Thank you.”
“Always.”
They turned onto their backs, and for the next few minutes, silence filled the space around them as the planet rotated again.
Those days he’d spent isolated from everyone had hurt more than he’d thought because now, even if it was just the two of them, Chris felt complete.
He wanted to apologize for how he had attacked her when she’d just been trying to help, but she would dismiss it. She always did. Leah could hold grudges—more than once she’d said she would heal in Hell. But she also had a heart bigger than herself and forgave him every time, no matter what. So instead, he changed the mood. “Can I ask you something?”
“Mm-hmm,” she hummed.
“What the fuck have you done?” He gestured to her neck with his chin and eyes, grinning.
“Got a little carried away last night.” She lifted a shoulder.
“Didn’t know you were into that kind of stuff.”
“I didn’t think I was either.” She laughed. “But I needed Søren to fuck the pain out of me.”
“Did he?”
“Yup.”
“Good.” Chris grinned, feeling truly happy that she had someone like him in her life. She deserved it. “Though, now that I’m thinking about it… Ugh, I’m lying where you’ve been getting nasty for two days.” He sat up and faked shuddering—didn’t really care.
Criss-crossing her legs, she pushed herself up, too. “I’m not nearly as gross as you.”
“Yeah, right. Tell that to those marks.” He snorted, pointing at her. “Anyway, he mentioned you didn’t want to do anything today,” he said.
“Yeah… That shit drained me last night.”
“That’s what hard pounding entails.”
She slapped his chest with the back of her hand. “Not that.”
“I know.”
“It’s so unfair...”
“It is.” He wrapped an arm around her shoulders and rested his head against hers. In the past she’d been alone, but she wasn’t anymore. She had a fucking horde of dudes, including her dad, ready to kick her ex’s ass if he ever dared to come near her, and he wanted her to feel it. “But staying here is not gonna change it, and I’m kind of hungry.”
“Just order whatever. We can eat here; Søren’s buying.” She mischievously grinned.
“Maybe we should go look for him?”
“Huh?”
“Søren didn’t go with the guys, said he’d stay on the terrace they have here,” he told her while hooking a finger under one of the cuts in his ripped, knee-length denim shorts. “Wherever that is.”
“What?”
“Did you really think he would leave?” Chris tilted his head, his tone sarcastic as fuck.
“He should have.” Leah sprung from the bed and strode towards the chair where her bag was. “I didn’t want him to miss this chance to do something fun after all the shit that’s been going on.”
“He said he’s visited the space center before.”
“Still… Ugh. I love him for being so considerate, but seriously, I’m gonna smack him.” She slipped on a pair of black leggings and fastened her bra underneath the oversized t-shirt. “Let’s go have lunch.”
