I bit down gently on her bottom lip and she whimpered. “I’ll give it some consideration if you come with me. Right now.”

Without waiting for a response, my power unfurled and I pushed her a step back, pressing her up against one of the corner posts of my bed. In the back of my mind, I barely registered the lack of ear discomfort in the transition between places, my focus solely on the temptress before me. She grinned and twisted my shirt, using more strength than I’d anticipated to spin us until my legs hit the footboard and I fell back on the bed.

“And what did you plan to do with me once you got me here?” Lexi climbed onto my lap, sliding her fingers under my jaw and tilting my head toward hers.

I ran my palms up her thighs and around to her back before I rolled, pinning her beneath me. Her hair fanned out like a fiery halo, eyes burning like embers. “Whatever I want,” I answered against her soft lips.

“And if I say no?”

Stunned, I pulled away, studying her through narrowed eyes. “Are you going to make me apologize to that meathead first?”

She tilted her head back and laughed, and the sound was fucking divine. I surged forward, taking advantage of her momentary distraction to release her amulet and devour the delectable skin of her exposed neck. Her laugh turned into a groan when I traced my tongue over the spot I’d left a mark days ago. Lexi arched beneath me and tugged my shirt up, ripping it impatiently when I didn’t move to let her take it off.

“I liked that shirt,” I growled, nipping at her jaw.

“Buy another,” she replied. Her nails carved into my back and I shuddered at the sensation. “That one was in my way.”

These were my favorite times. We pushed and pulled and more often than not, one of us ceded control to the other. Dominance was my forte, but when her energy blazed like a miniature sun, submitting was worth it to witness everything she was. But there were times when both of us needed it, and the fight was just as addictive as the woman herself.

Another tear made her gasp and clutch at the black hoodie she wore, the round, white cartoon skull on the front split in two. “You just killed Jack!”

I met her wide eyes, amusement curling in my chest. “He has a redhead, too. I’m sure he’ll understand my motives.”

Challenge sparked in those amber depths and I delighted in putting it there. We met in a swell of heat, all forceful tongues and gnashing teeth. She bit down hard on my bottom lip, the brief flare of pain sending a pleasurable jolt right to my dick. Fingers tugged at my pants, searching for control even as she lay spread out on the silk sheets beneath me.

When I leaned back on my knees, she followed, yanking the fabric down past my hips. My cock stood proud between us, and Lexi wasted no time. The first brush of her tongue set fire to my skin. I buried my fingers in her hair, thrusting into her mouth. She gripped my hips, the bite of her short fingernails only heightening the sensation, and I groaned as she sucked hard.

I wasn’t even close when Lexi finally pulled away, shimmying out of her jeans. She turned her back to me, sliding down my chest until she grabbed me and sank down. In this position, I could reach everything, and I took advantage. One hand wrapped around and grabbed her breast, the other dipping down between her legs. She reached back, clinging to me as I adjusted my position so I could thrust up into her. Our lips found each other again, power and euphoria coiling together in my core with each swipe of my fingers around her.

Everything boiled down to each shift, each stroke, each moan of ecstasy. The way Lexi used her power to touch and tease, like dozens of hands on me at once. The way she called my name in the throes of pleasure. Her hair wrapped around my hands as I took her from behind, aura blazing like a bonfire. That odd synchronicity we’d discovered last time rode us through each other’s orgasms, and the inexplicable connection I felt with this woman, this demigoddess, sank deeper under my skin.

Tonight was for us, because things were only going to get more hectic from here. The worst was coming, and if we didn’t get ahead in the game…

We were going to lose.

Chapter 13

Lexi

The tourmaline chunk vibrated with so much energy, I didn’t even have to ask where we were doing this. It pulled me along on an invisible tether until Lucifer’s grip tightened on my hand and snapped me out of it. I looked up to see his gaze darting across the overcast sky and the park around us.

This was where we’d taken a walk. Where I’d found out who he was. Where I’d unleashed my magic in a wave of furious instinct. Where I’d felt the icy sting in my head for the first time.

And for some reason, my mother insisted this was the place I needed to be for the ritual.

She’d also chosen this spot to gather everyone before it started, the members of her coven and the two who called Boston home. Loki was the only other person in the crowd besides Lucifer who wasn’t a witch. Chloe was talking to a couple others nearby, but waved when she saw me. I didn’t expect to see Izumi or Kameron around—Izumi because she was on patrol and Kameron because I wanted him far away from this mess.

After the attack at Moakley yesterday, Nathan said it wasn’t over. Though his visions weren’t clear, the feeling he got said the worst was yet to come. Any and every team member that was available had been called in to patrol during the warding ritual.

It didn’t feel like enough.

“Are you worried?”

I sighed and stuffed my hands into the purple jacket I’d thrown on over my usual black tank top. “I feel like I’ve been nothing but worried lately. It’s exhausting.”

Lucifer’s smile was strained. “The moment this all ends, I see a vacation. You, me, a scorching desert—”

“Desert?” I laughed, pushing lightly at his chest. “Are we hitting the strip in Vegas or artifact hunting in Egypt?”
