Suffice it to say we were both horny.
He dropped onto his elbow, breathing deeply. “Your smell,” he said, turning his head sideways.
“My smell?” I'd just had a bath, I couldn't smellthatbad.
“Haven't you noticed your sense of smell has changed?” he asked.
“Well, yeah, but I figured that was the pregnancy. I can smelleverything.I could with my other pregnancies, too, but this is even stronger.”
“I can smell you in a room full of people. I smell you when I sleep. Sleeping beside you the last couple of nights has been heaven, basking in your scent.”
I raised my eyebrows. “That's heavy. You're laying it on a little thick.”
His face fell, disappointed.
“No, don't be sad!” I exclaimed.“Are you being sincere? You like the way I smell that much?”
“I'm serious. Sárkány bond through smell. Can't you smell me?”
My sense of smellhadheightened, but I'd been trying to ignore it because smells weren't always pleasant. Closing my eyes, I breathed deep and focused on the scents around me. Laundry detergent, minty toothpaste, and... He smelled like the outdoors. I laughed, delighted.
“You smell like sunshine! Like freshly mown grass and carrots pulled from the ground. How have I never noticed this?” I pulled him close and pressed my nose against his neck, breathing deeply. “What do I smell like?”
“I had to search out the spices in the kitchen to know what it is in this world. We have similar in Galdiart. Here, it’s cinnamon and nutmeg. Sometimes I smell honey, too.”
“But I don’t bake,” I said stupidly.
He laughed and popped a kiss on my lips. “We all smell like something from nature. It’s just a part of our body chemistry to have a smell relating to, as you’d say, Mother Nature.”
He claimed my lips again, and I enjoyed the petting, focusing on my newfound sense of smell. Smelling the outdoors on his skin made me feel closer to it, and my fire crackled happily under my skin.
He was moving down my chest when we were interrupted by the sound of the door opening and slamming against the wall. Axoular sprang up with a roar, uncovering us. I buttoned my shirt, suddenly the calm one.
When we were alone and waiting, he was the calm one, but once we were confronted with another person, he became the agitated one.
I had no reason to be upset. If they came near me, I’d burn them to a crisp.
Dumadi stood in the doorway, face red with anger. “Get out from under the blanket. You’ll not fornicate here while being watched with my grandchild in your womb.”
That was when I’d had enough. I smiled. “Axoular,” I murmured. “Is it possible to shoot fire at someone?”
He snapped his head toward me, eyes wide. “Yes. Simply will it to be, and it'll be.”
“What’s that? What are you saying?” Dumadi’s face was nearly purple.
I smiled and rose from the bed. “Stay close to me,” I said under my breath.
“I demand you tell me what you’re saying, or I’ll have them release the gasses!”
I smiled at Dumadi. “Don’t be upset.”
“How could I not be?” he yelled. “You’re a brazen woman, but you'll not expose my grandchild to any more unnatural behavior.”
“It’ll be all right,” I said soothingly, nearly to him. He stood in front of the open door. I could see the hallway outside the door where a guard stood peeking into the room. “We’re leaving now.”
“You aren’t going anywhere!” Spittle flew from his mouth as he tried to assert his power.
Laughter burst from my lips as I let my fire have its head. Flames erupted all over me, burning my clothes off. Lifting my arms, I focused my energy on the air above Dumadi’s head, and a bolt of fire shot toward the wall, igniting the wallpaper instantly. Dumadi ducked, squealing, then ran from the room.
