Travis laughed. “I know, I know, it sounds weird, but you guys don’t need to humor her. She really is a witch. Not the kind you see in movies and tv, doing cruel spells and hurting people. What she can do is really… beautiful. And cool. I didn’t believe it until she played for me and I felt it. That’s a kind of magic that’s real.” His gaze swung to hers, and there was so much love in his eyes that it distracted me for a second.

“We understand—” Deva began, but Travis cut her off.

“No, this isn’t drugs, or some new young person thing,” his grin was a little smug.

“Travis, they believe us. They’re witches too,” Jacqueline said, then looked at me to confirm her words.

Travis’s gaze swung to me and his smug grin fell away, and his mouth dropped open. I glanced at my friends trying to see if they would object to me telling him the truth. If there was anyone who deserved to know it was him. When I didn’t see any of them glaring at me or shaking their heads I decided to forge ahead.

“Err.” I set my teacup down and sighed. “There’s something I have to tell you.”

Travis stared at me with his eyebrows up. “Don’t tell me you’ve been hiding being a witch from me all my life, because there's just no way...”

I held up my hand and shook my head. “No, no. Not that. Before I left town, I saved an older lady from being hit by a car. It turned out she was Karma, with a capital K. And now I have her powers.”

“Karma like… I cheat on you so the next girl cheats on me. Or, I help someone, and then I win the lottery, karma?”

I nodded.

“So, you have superpowers…?”

“Kind of,” I said softly, “but my friends are regular witches”

Travis stared at me with his mouth slightly open, and I could feel his thoughts turning. I tried to remember what it was like when I was just human and all of this stuff was new to me. A lot of it had been unbelievable. But then again, if he’d accepted his girlfriend was a real witch, this wasn’t his first time stepping into this world. So, he could accept that magic was real. But could he accept me like this? My heart froze, worried he’d reject me or hate the thought of me having powers.

But then he grinned. “That is so cool!”

Deva, Carol, and Beth burst out laughing. “Well, that was nerve-wracking,” Deva said.

“Ever since Jacqueline and I started dating, I’ve been…” He glanced at her and grinned. “Well, my eyes have been opened.”

“That’s wonderful, honey,” I said and patted his hand, still feeling nervous.

To my surprise, he turned his hand around and held mine. “I know sometimes you were worried I’d end up too much like dad.”

“I never said that!” I rushed out.

He squeezed my hand. “You didn’t have to. I saw the fear in your eyes sometimes when you tried to hide it. But I want you to know that even though I can be a bit—”

“Straight-laced?” Jacqueline offered with a laugh.

He looked back at her with a smile that filled his eyes. “Yes. And I am. But I’m also the kind of person who knows how to bring happiness, excitement, and change into my life.” Then, Travis looked back at me. “And it seems that when you got rid of Mr. Buzzkill, you found your own happiness and excitement too.”

“I have,” I said. “These ladies… are amazing.” I choked a bit on my words. “And my life in Mystic Hollow has become more than I ever imagined life could be.”

“Good, you deserve that,” he said.

I smiled. “And if Jacqueline brings that into your life, you deserve her too.”

Chatty humans haven’t set down a food bowl yet, Buster growled.

Jacqueline jumped. “Your cat… it talked.” Then, her eyes widened. “One of you is an animal witch.”

Beth lifted a hand. “Guilty!”

“That’s… awesome!” Jacqueline squealed.

“I didn’t hear anything,” Travis said with a frown.
