Chapter Ten

Starla tried to pretendshe hadn’t overheard the male who broke her saying he wasn’t leaving because of her, but dammit, she had supersonic hearing thanks to her Fey side.

“You’re not paying attention to me, are you?”

She blinked, trying to remember what her sister had said.“You asked what I wanted to do first?”she tried stalling with the question.

“Are you able to feel Scepter or something?”Aurora asked.

“What do you mean?”Starla turned away from her big sister, knowing her big sister would see through her since she was a horrible liar.

“I can feel Savage when he’s angry, or you know, in extreme situations. So, I wasn’t sure if you could feel him.He has been very grouchy since you’ve been gone.”Aurora stepped around her.“Talk to me, Starla.Obviously, we have a lot to catch up on.You’ve lived an entire life on Fey.Do you still have feelings for him?”

“I remember that moment very clearly, Aurora. The one where he said I wasn’t for him.It was that very second he broke me.It wasn’t a slow rip that altered me.That night changed something inside me, showing how deeply words could hurt and how much strength it took for me to survive. The pain that I’d felt is proof within me.I will always carry a reminder, even now, where nobody can see, but I know it’s there. There were days that my chest was so fucking tight I could barely breathe. My eyes burned from tears I refused to cry, and my body trembled as I did everything I could to hide the hurt, even when I sobbed in the dark, trying to silence the pain tearing me apart. That night carved itself deeply into my soul.No matter how many days, weeks, years I moved forward, the memory stayed sharp, pressing against my heart. So no, I haven’t moved on.I don’t know if I can.But to answer your question of whether I still have feelings for him, then yes.Lots of them.”

Aurora nodded.“That’s good.If you said you felt nothing, then we’d have a problem.”

Starla laughed, the sound hollow.“I’m sorry, but how is that a problem?”

Her sister wrapped strong arms around her.“Because if you didn’t have any feelings, then you would be over him.Since you feel, then you and he have a chance.”

“I vowed I’d heal for the girl I was.But I’ll protect the woman I am.And, Aurora, no matter what happens, I will fight for the queens you and I were created to be.That’s what I learned while I was on Fey.We aren’t just little human females or shifters with a touch of Fey.We are our mother’s daughters. We are warriors.”

“That’s what I love to hear and see.I can’t believe you’re almost the same age as me, though. That’s something that will take a little time to wrap my head around. Also, you could literally think about clothes and bam they’re here, but shopping is so much funner.”Aurora and Starla laughed.

“You can, too.I’ll show you,” Starla said, reaching her hand out to touch Aurora.

She pulled back at the sound of knocking on the door.

“That would be my mate. He’s being polite by knocking.”Aurora rolled her eyes before calling for Savage to enter.

“Oh, you’ve already trained him.”Starla bumped her sister’s hip with hers.

Savage strolled in, one brow lifted as if he heard them.Of course, Starla figured he had.

“Hi, Savage.Thank you for letting me stay with you until I get my bearings.I do have plans and goals.”She looked at Aurora, hoping her sister would understand her need for independence.

“What do you mean, plans? You’re still a—”

Starla shook her head.“I know that’s what you think, and obviously, if we were to go by human time and standards, I would be only eighteen. However, I’m no longer the same girl I was before.Look at me, Aurora.”She waved her hand down her body. The physical differences were plain to see.On Fey, her confidence had grown. Now, she needed her sister to truly look at her. She’d gone through more than just a transformation in looks.Anyone could get a makeover, although hers would be considered extreme.

“I think what your sister is trying to say, Vita Mea, is that she’s not the teenager you risked your life to rescue any longer,” Savage said, reaffirming her boundaries, but he also reminded her Aurora always put Starla first. It was a gentle way of saying he had her sister’s back.

Starla gave him a nod, acknowledging his words.“Of course, she’s the best big sister and mama bear ever.”

“I think you mean wolf,” Savage corrected.
