Kaleb stared at me for a moment before he took the fork, scooping a piece up, and held it up. “Okay,” he said, smug. “We can share it.” His words sent a shiver down my spine. I felt my cheeks grow hot.

I took the bite, feeling my face grow hotter as his eyes watched me. His gaze dropped down to my lips, and I could see something stir in his eyes. Kaleb scooped a piece, popping it into his mouth, not breaking his eye contact. I stared, knowing how this looked. We looked like a happy couple sharing a brownie, but a part of me was getting turned on.

I squeezed my thighs together, feeling the shift. He scooped another bite up, sliding it into my mouth. His other hand reached up, sliding over my lower lip. “You’re a bit of a messy eater, aren’t you?”

I swallowed, licking my lip. His smirk grew into a grin. Was I the only one feeling affected by this?

He offered me another bite, and I chewed slowly, letting the brownie melt in my mouth. He took another bite, and Logan walked over. “Games set.” Suddenly, it was like someone dumped an ice bucket down my back.

I needed some air. “I’ll meet you over there. I’m going to run to the restroom.” I pulled myself up and headed down the small hallway. I slipped outside instead of the bathroom, letting the cold air hit me.

I needed to remind myself this was all fake. Kaleb was just good at acting. He was trying to help me relax, and I was overthinking everything again.

“Stop thinking too much about everything,” I grumbled at myself as I turned back to the door. “This is all fake. Remember that. You know this isn’t real. You both agree to this.”

I headed back inside, planning to go to the pool table, when I noticed that there was someone else with the guys now. I instantly knew who the woman standing there was. She had long blond hair and a perfectly put-together face. She was wearing a shirt that was cut lower than mine was, and it was cropped up, leaving her stomach exposed. She was wearing a short skirt that hardly covered her ass. She was standing next to Kaleb, looking like a perfect match for him.

She had to be the woman that Dale was trying to set him up with, but she had to know that Kaleb was taken. She heard Kaleb announce that he was dating me. There was no way she was hitting on him.

My stomach dipped as she placed her hand over his, stepping even closer to him. My eyes widened as she spoke into his ear. Anger hit me. This chick was hitting on Kaleb, knowing fully well that he wasn’t single. And I wasn’t having it.

Chapter 12 - Kaleb

“You guys look happy,” Logan said as he hit the ball, breaking the triangle. “Like a perfect match.

“Thanks, we are,” I said, leaning on my pool cue. “She makes me happy.”

“Still kind of surprised you’re dating her, though. Everyone is talking about it.”

Good. The more people talked, the less my father could deny that we were together. This was exactly what we wanted.

Patrick hit the balls, knocking one into a pocket. “I get it. She seems sweet. You can tell she feels the same from the way she looks at you.”

Sweet wasn’t a side of her I was seeing a lot of lately. Ever since my rejection, she’d become another person, putting a wall up between us. I was slowly trying to knock it down. When we were out at dinner, it was the first time in a while I’d seen her laugh without forcing it.

I pulled up my pool cue and bent down to hit a ball. But a hand landed onto the table, blocking my shot. I looked up and found Elizabeth standing there, wearing a soft smile and a shirt that dipped low to her midsection. She was half leaned over, and I could see her breast clear as day, the shirt leaving little to the imagination.

“I didn’t know you came here,” she cooed, batting her eyelashes at me.

“You’re blocking my shot,” I said, waiting for her to remove her hand. She did, and I pulled the stick back, hitting the ball. I watched them move, none of them going where I wanted. I ground my teeth together and pulled myself up.

Elizabeth pulled her lips together, giving me a coy expression. “You look nice, Kaleb.”

“That’s because I’m on a date.”

Elizabeth raised an eyebrow. “And where is she?”

“Bathroom.”

Elizabeth moved closer, her hands sliding closer toward me. “With Nora? Is that her name?”

I nodded. “That is. We’re dating. She actually moved in.”

Elizabeth nodded, reaching a hand up, placing it on my shirt like she was fixing it. “I heard. Seems a little soon, don’t you think? Didn’t you guys just start dating? Wouldn’t want to ruin the romance so soon.”

I looked down as her hand landed on my chest. A move I’d seen plenty of women do. I looked back up at her, feeling it flatten against my chest. “We really like each other. Why move slowly when anything can happen?”

I stepped back out of her hand and turned to the booth where I had set our drinks down. It was in the back corner, just a little away from the pool table. I took a sip of my soda and sat down, hoping she would get the point, but she hadn’t. Elizabeth followed me. She made a face, scrunching up her nose. “True. You also shouldn’t let the good ones get away.”
