“Yes. I also promised you a date tonight. Go get changed.” She nods toward her bedroom. “We have somewhere to be.”
I blink, confused as fuck as to what’s happening. “You still want to go on a date with?—”
“Jordan!Go,” she teases, shooing me down the hallway.
“Okay! Okay! Geeze!” I tease back, running off to change. I pause in the doorway, glancing over my shoulder at Kennedy’s casual jeans and T-shirt combo. Every muscle in my body is tense as fuck as I count my heartbeats and jump into the shower, needing to get practice off me so I can look my best. She isn’t running. I didn’t scare her away. She planned a date…a date forme.
Time to bust out the glass slippers and a tiara because I feel like a mother-fucking Disney princess.
My hand hasn’t left hers, our palms glued together as she drives us to wherever the fuck we are going. I wanted to drive, but she insisted on keeping it a surprise. As shaky as my hands are right now, it’s probably safer if she’s driving. Her thumb, slowly grazing mine, keeps my heartbeat steady.
“Kenni…what are we doing at the airport? Please tell me we aren’t going skydiving ’cause I’m kind of scared to death of…well…death.”
She throws her head back and laughs as she pulls into a parking space at the County Airport. “We aren’t going skydiving. Trust me, I havezerodesire to jump out of a working plane. I was thinking more along the lines of landing the plane on the ground.”
“You’re…” I suck in a sharp breath, once again stunned at this woman’s ability to surprise me. “You’re taking me flying?”
“Don’t they do this on those reality dating shows? I think I saw it on an episode ofYou’re The One.They went on a romantic helicopter tour. I don’t have a helicopter, so you’ll have to forgive me, but I do have a small plane. I thought?—”
“Did you say romantic?” I interrupt, my pulse thrumming in my ears.
She flashes me a wry smile before she hops out of the car and starts walking toward the hangar, knowing I’ll follow.
She knows I will fucking follow her anywhere.
I race to join her, catching up just as she reaches the open bay door. Kennedy grabs my hand, pulling me along beside her as we walk to one of the small aircrafts.Whoa…“Is this your plane? Like…you own it?”
She smirks, one brow raised. “You’re not theonlyone who can buy a plane,” she says as she does her walk around. “Now, hurry up and get in—we’re on a schedule.”
We settle into our seats. There are so many fucking screens, gauges, buttons, and levers that I’m afraid if I breathe too hard, I’ll break something. I feel like I’m in some sort of bizarre arcade playing a game left over from the 1900s.
“Am I supposed to put my feet on these pedals? Why does this feel like a recumbent bike?”
She shakes her head. “Keep your feet on the floor for now. Those are the rudder pedals.” Kennedy points to the back of the plane. “That’s how you taxi the plane to get to the runway. You really know nothing about flying, do you?”
“Not a damn thing other than my phone needs to be on Airplane Mode.” I grimace, feeling ridiculous for not knowing more. “Do you steer with your feet? What’s the Mario Kart controller for?”
She snorts. “This is not a car, or a video game, and this is not a steering wheel—it’s the yoke.”
I blink. “So basically everything is backward from a car. Got it.”
“Sort of.” She laughs. “You know how hockey has icing but involves zero cupcakes? Flying has a lot of terms likethat—names that sound familiar but mean something totally different.”
“True! And now I want a cupcake.” I lick my lips, rolling my eyes as I picture the perfect yellow cupcake with chocolate frosting. “Wait. So, then how the hell does all this work?”
“Think of the rudder pedals like how you move around the ice with your feet. That’s how you change directions. The yolk controls other things, like the pitch and roll. I’ll show you some of the fun stuff once we’re in the air.”
I smile as I get strapped in, put my headset on, and watch her work her magic. The way she checks everything. She is so damn smart. There are a billion switches in here, and she knows exactly which ones to use when, not even hesitating before flipping them on and off. She commands every situation, even when it’s just the two of us. My heart has been pounding all day, but seeing her like this, with my life completely in her hands, is making all that blood pump straight to my dick. I would adjust myself but I’m scared I’ll elbow a button by accident.
Fuck it—she’s seen my joystick before.
She taxis the plane onto the runway, talking to air traffic control and getting clearance for takeoff.
“Magneto, check,” she says, her voice sexier than ever in my headset.
“Magneto? Like X-Men?”
“Yes.Exactlylike X-Men.” She peeks over at me as she continues her pre-flight routine. “The whole plane is run by magnets. You don’t have anything metal on you, do you?”
