“Shit, Mack.” Vee rested her head on my shoulder. “You’re almost done.”
My heart sank, and my gaze jumped to Dean. He had his hands in his pockets, focus right on me, but his face didn’t change. If anything, he looked relaxed as hell.Maybe he doesn’t care?
“There’s like eight or nine left.” I swallowed, forcing a laugh. “This summer has gone by fast.”
“Fourth of July is next week.” She groaned and ran a hand through her hair. “Ale and I are going back to visit my sister in Missouri. You have plans here, or you wanna come with?”
I chewed my lip, my stomach souring at the fact I only had nine things left to complete with Dean. I knew we said until summer was over, but if we did all nine of them in a week… then would we stop hanging out? I had to preserve them. Which meant I wanted to leave for the weekend to not complete the list, but that contradicted with the fact I wanted to hang out with Dean as much as possible because we didn’t have much time.
“Uh, I think I might stay here,” I said, snapping my attention to Dean for a second. He gave me a small nod. That had to be good.
“No worries. I figured. Lo is staying here too. I think her and Luca are visiting his grandma for a night. Will you be alone then?”
Alone. No Lo.
I was a horrible person. My first thought about Lo beinggone was that Dean could sleep over. Rubbing my temples, I shook my head. “Nah, I’ll find something to do.”
“Callum and I will steal her for the day,” Dean said, his usual charming voice and easy smile obliterating any tension. “I’ve been wanting to go to the lake for a while. His family has a house.”
