“Let’s see,” I said, my voice cracking. She and I were the first ones to follow through. I’d seen enough TV shows to know my friends could back out, but I was proud of this tattoo. I loved soccer, and I was always 12. It was my birthday, December 12, and it always brought me a lot of luck.

“Holy shit, why am I afraid my parents will be pissed at me?” Ale said, eyes wide. “I’m twenty-one years old, and I’m worried about my mom. She’ll hate it.”

We laughed.

“It looks beautiful on you.” Gabe smiled at her before his gaze moved to me. It lingered, long enough for Dean to clear his throat. “Who’s next?”

“Shit. Okay. Me. Gah!” Lo shimmied and clapped, pumping herself up. “I can do this. I can do this.”

“You got it, girl,” I said.

She fist pumped the air and disappeared into the room with Gabe. Only Vee and Callum were left.

“Did you bring your list with you, Mack?” Vee asked, joining Dean and I near the photo wall.

“Of course.” I reached into my back pocket and unfolded the paper. It was falling apart, and some of the words were blurring together.Save it.Frowning, I made a mental note to redo it somehow to preserve this.

“Let’s see it.” Vee gave me a pen, and I crossed offtattoo.
