“Not too bad of progress with about five weeks left of summer, huh?” I held up the sheet. “Not sure how to handle asking three guys out though.”

“Askmeout on three dates, Mackenzie.”

“Well, hey, I asked you to the concert tonight. That counts.”

“You didn’t reallyaskthough.”

“I sure did, buddy.” I rolled my eyes and enjoyed how he smiled again. “There is a lot of nakedness on this list. My friends suck.”

“We’ll find a way to knock those out for sure.” He leaned back onto the cushions and closed his eyes. He let out a long sigh, and I swore I could feel the tension on him.

I wasn’t sure how to comfort him. We weren’t together, not really, and when I tried touching him earlier, he didn’t like it. It put me in this weird spot. Did he want to leave and not know how to say goodbye? Ugh. My stomach soured at the thought, but I didn’t want him to feel pressure. “Hey, if you want to head home, you won’t offend me.”

His eyes snapped open. “Do you want me to leave?”

“That is not what I said.” My face heated. Shit. My questionmade the hard look come back on his face. “Dean, I can tell something is bothering you, and I’m trying to help, but I don’t know how. You don’t want to be touched, so I can’t do that. Even though my love language is definitely physical, so figured you might want to—”
