“Do you have a broom?” I asked.
“Later.” Without warning, he shoved his flashlight in his pocket, took the tape from my grip, and tossed it on the floor. “Heat. I need heat.”
I didn’t get time to react before he scooped me up in his arms, engulfing me in his woodsy scent. He pressed his face into my neck, gripping me tighter with each step. My pulse raced in my ears, from the cold, from his proximity, from the fear of the blizzard.
It was all overwhelming.
“We need to block the air from escaping. A blanket or pillow would work.” His voice still shook from the cold.
“Good idea.”
Reaching the top of the stairs, he gently set me on the floor before wedging one of the blankets under the door. Once a second blanket was secured, he dove into our makeshift bed.
“I can’t feel my fingers.” His body shivered. “Toes are iffy, too.”
“Harrison.” Worry etched its way down my body, my stomach tightening with concern. “Move closer to the fire. Warm up.”
“I need you next to me.” He lifted the covers, waving his hand in invitation. “Come on. I’ll warm up much faster with you.”
It took me zero seconds to decide what to do. I discarded two of my layers before sliding next to his massive body. He wrapped his limbs around me like a second skin. He trembled and I squeezed him tighter, like it would help. “Did you take your shoes off?”
“No.” He snuggled deeper into my embrace and shuffled his feet around. Two loud clunks hit the floor and he pressed his socked feet against my legs.
“Aah!” I yelped. “You’re freezing!”
“Told you. They’re ice.” His lips moved along my skin, and I shivered, not from cold this time.
He needs warmth. Not you thinking about his hard muscles.
“Next time, put on more clothes. I hope you don’t have any nerve damage.” I ran my fingers through his hair, telling myself it was to comfort him.
He had a great head of hair, dark brown, and thick with enough curl to give him that dreamy just-woke-up look.
He hummed against me, and my eyes drifted closed. While he might’ve been cold, his body still produced heat, and the toastier I became, the easier it was to fall asleep with our bodies intertwined. My last thought was about how safe I felt in Harrison’s arms.
“Becca.” A hand shook my shoulder. “Becca, wake up.”
“Hmm?” I was so warm and comfortable. I could’ve lived in this moment forever. I peeked an eye open as sunlight lit up the living room. “What’s going on? It’s early.”
“Do you know what you’re doing?” The deep sexy voice asked. “You’re rubbing your hands all over my chest.”
“Am I?” I stilled, flushing as my nailsduginto Harrison’s bare chest. I jerked my hand out of his shirt like it was a hot flame. In my sleep, I’d wrapped around him like he was my lifeline.Oh my God.“Um, sorry. Sorry.” I rolled away from him, my heart beating against my ribs.
“Do you know why you’re here?” The blankets rustled as he rolled over onto his side.
Our faces were inches apart, and the sleep lines on his face were so dang adorable, his normally hard features all soft and lazy. My stomach swooped.
“Why I’m here? The blizzard?” I was unsure why he’d asked me that. I touched his forehead, checking for a fever. “Are you alright?”
“I’m fine.” He wet his bottom lip with his tongue as he trailed his fingers over my face and down my jaw. “You’re absolutely positive that you’re awake?”
“Yes, Harrison.” My eyelids fluttered when he began kneading my neck. The frigid air was thick with tension. His touch, the heated look in his eyes… the warmth between my thighs. “Oh, that feels good.”
“Good. I need you wide awake for this.” His tone dripped with insinuation and desire.
“For what?” I asked, playing with fire—I knew this was going to happen.Wewere going to happen.
He stared at my mouth, his dark green eyes hooded with lust. He licked the corner of his mouth and then cupped my face in his large hands before guiding me closer. Our lips touched, and fireworks ricocheted in my stomach. His kiss was slow and tender, his tongue teasing mine. We had never kissed like this before. Unhurried and lazy. He nipped at my lips, each bite sending goose bumps down my body.
